BF baby sleeping 8 hours

DC4 is 6 weeks old and exclusively breastfed. She's always been a good sleeper but has recently started sleeping 6-8 hours at night from about 11.30pm. Will this affect my supply?

Don’t worry about it. If she’s hungry she’ll wake up.

My DS used to be like this - he slept 6-7 hour stretches at night but made up for it by nursing pretty much all day long. Then when he hit the 4 month mark he finally started spacing out daytime feeds a little bit but he also started waking every two hours at night. He hasn’t slept through since.

Agree with pp.. if she's having enough during the day and her weight is fine I wouldn't worry, she must not be hungry during the night. All I can say is make the most of it as their sleep habits change so frequently!

And no I wouldn't have thought it'd affect your supply if she's getting what she needs during the day

As long as she's following her curve on the centiles and is bright and alert at times in the day, she'll be fine Wink

My baby was the same; sleeping through from 6 weeks. my supply wasn't affected.

It can affect your supply in that the milk-producing hormone prolactin is stimulated the most at night, between around 12-4am so some infant feeding specialists recommend pumping in that window if baby doesn't need to feed but you feel your supply is being affected over time. Others recommend waking baby to feed overnight to maintain supply. There's no definite yes or no as it will vary from person to person, but at 6 weeks the supply isn't as stable as further down the line so you might consider these options, but I'd probably take baby's weight into consideration (if lower on centiles waking to feed is recommended more).

As your baby is only 6 weeks you can still ask for advice from the infant feeding team at your hospital I think, or HV drop in?
