Nipple abscess - ouch!!

DS is almost 8 months old. He has 3 teeth that are as sharp as stanley knives. He has been having a nibble at my nips now and again, but we have managed to get the biting under control. The thing that is really getting me down is that he 'scrapes' his ever so sharp teeth across my nips when he unlatches, and this has resulted in one of those nip blobs - (Montgomery's glands??) being scratched and now I have a painful red abscess on my nip.

Trouble is, it is on my 'good' nork - the one that DS prefers as the let down is better on that side. I have been in agony for the last 3 days whenever he feeds.

What can I use to treat it? Do I need to see a doc? should I use just the other nork until the nip has healed?

Any advice gladly welcomed from a tender GB.

Well, I let him feed from the other side for a while, and the soreness has subsided without any need for treatment.

He has now taken to scratching my breast when feeding

sounds horrible gingerbear - maybe put mittens on him until he stops scratching you?

Gingerbeer, you have my sympaties in bucket loads.
I had a blister form on my right nipple a few days ago, which has since burst and is agony. When 8 week old DD latches on it is the most painful thing I have ever felt. I would rather be in labour again Although it is just starting to feel slightly better again.

Have you tried the Lansinoh gel, I cannot do without it, it really helps me.

Hope it gets better for you soon.

Ooh GGMM, burst blister sounds dreadful - was that due to poor latch? Or has DD got the suction of an industrial vacuum cleaner??

Used lansinoh gel before, but it is better for general soreness than any infection.

I cut his nails as short as I can - mittens?? Hahahahaha, no chance. Someone suggested a nursing necklace for him to fiddle with - not seen any though.
