One breast producing a lot less milk?

Baby is 7 weeks old today. For the past couple of weeks I've noticed that my right breast become a engorged easily and feels fuller than the left. Baby seems to feed well on both sides. Does the lack or fullness mean that there is a low supply in left side? Should I try to rectify this?

It's really common for one breast to produce more milk than the other, and it's usually the right that produces more - try googling "slacker boob".

It doesn't mean your baby isn't getting the right amount of milk overall, but if you're bothered you can try feeding on the left or starting on that side more often to increase the supply from your "slacker". You'll want to balance this with making sure your right breast doesn't get too engorged, though, or you'll risk blocked ducts/mastitis.

My baby seems to cough and splutter on my right boob but not my left, so think I have the same thing and a more forceful let down on my right. As a result he often actually prefers the left one.

Yes …I call my right boob ‘big Bertha’ and the left ‘Niagra falls’ (it’s the leaky one). I didn’t know it was a thing for the right one to be fuller. Bodies are funny things, eh?!

I had a small baby then a big baby. The small baby preferred the right breast (less milky), the big baby preferred the left. Definitely a thing!

I had this. When I started feeling a bit lopsided when my baby was a similar age to yours I started always feeding from the side with less milk first, for every feed. It definitely helped even things out but one side still always produced significantly more than the other. I suspect in my case there are literally more milk ducts on that side.

Thanks all. I started a timer app yesterday and on average he feeds for 10 minutes on slacker side and 7 on the other. Probably due to faster let down on that side. He's happy enough and if it's normal I'll just leave it

My right boob makes 80% of my milk. As long as your baby is getting enough milk overall it doesn't matter if they are producing unevenly.

Interesting thread. My right boob has always been the leaky one and if he unlatches it just continues to squirt him in the face - now I know why. He seems to prefer the left and must be because of the fast let down of the right!
