Increasing milk supply again

The last couple of days I've been breastfeeding less as both me and ds (18 days old!) have thrush and it's been too painful for me to feed him. Dh has been giving him bottles with formula and I've been tentatively bf'ing in between when I've felt my nipples have been up to it just so my supply doesn't stop altogether.

I'm pretty sure my supply has decreased and wouldn't be enough for him for a whole day. What I was wondering was how do I build the supply up again so I can feed ds all the time?

I b'fed dd for 6 months so definitely don't want to have to give up and feel quite unhappy in these early days giving ds formula already. But I'll get over it if I can get back to full-time b'feeding.

Basically the more you feed the more milk you make. Thrush is really sore I know, but can be cleared up really quickly with an over the counter remedy (you have to treat baby too) When the thrush has cleared then just feed him as much as you can and he needs. He'll probably be stuck to your boob all day for a couple of days (!!??) but your body will gradually produce more milk and meet the extra demands. HTH, best of luck

as spanna2 says the more you feed the more you produce. you could try expressing millk in between feeds this will help build up the supply.

DS2 has thrush but somwhow I have managed to avoid it so far.

Good luck

I've found fennel tea fantastic for boosting my supply. A cup before bed usually does the trick and my supply is abundant again by the following day definitely worth a try - particularly if you don't mind the taste! (Mild aniseed).
