Rejecting right breast - why?

Hello,

Last few days baby (14 wks) has been rejecting right breast. Feeds for only few mins, starts to act uncomfortable and won't go back on this breast, but will go on the left one. Feeding time has reduced a lot, on both. I have to force the issue.

I'm unsure of weight gain; not been able to weigh for while. Seems healthy.

Does seem windy sometimes, especially when starts to feed. Tried Infocal and Gripe Water. Poo's are normal. Has done the odd MASSIVE one (nice).

Waking a lot in the night, sometimes seems to be in discomfort after a feed, other times goes straight to sleep. I can endure night waking, which more standard for BF babies. It's just the discomfort and rejection of right breast is perplexing and frustrating me.

I'm feeling so down about it today. I don't want BF to be a battle. I want to enjoy it like i did last time. Feeling sad and concerned about it at the moment. Please help - give advise.

hi there my ds went off my left one. Have you tried giving gripe water before you feed? Could your dc ear hurt ?

My dd is now almost 11 months and still refuses my right breast - i think its quite common for babies to have a preference - not sure why. Also as they get older they get more efficient at feeding so feeds do take less time. by the sounds of things you are both doing great - try not to worry as long as he seems healthy then i wouldnt force the issue with the right breast tbh.

only thing is you'll prob end up with 2 odd sized boobs like me

It is possible it's an ear infection or, a tooth coming through on that side which is sore (DD got her teeth at about that point).

Or you could have a slower let down on that side which is why your baby prefers the other side. Are there any bumps on the side which your baby is reluctant to feed on? Have you tried stimulating letdown when you first start to encourage the baby to suckle that breast?

my dd has never fed from my left breast and i have been unable to express any milk from it and it has now dried up. she seems to be getting what she needs from just my right breast so not stressed about it. i do have the same problem as yelnats though!!
if he's healthy, happy and is gaining weight then i wouldn't worry.
