Has anyone weaned with an oversupply?

Just that really, any tips or tricks? I’ve started trying to wean but the engorgment and pain is ridiculous and supply just doesn’t seem to be reducing! I’m desperate to stop BF’ing mainly because baby sleeps long stretches but I can’t get any sleep as boobs are fully and rock solid 1-2 hours after a feed. I also leak and just let down constantly - I’m sick of wearing bras and pads 24/7.

I never had an oversupply but I’d say that you need to express just enough to reduce the engorgement - if your breasts are not being emptied they will eventually get the message to reduce the amount of milk being produced.

i follow Olivia Hinge lactation consultant on Instagram - she has loads of great videos. There’s one on stopping breastfeeding that might be worth a watch (I haven’t watched it yet as still breastfeeding). She also has one on engorgement.

oh, another thing! I exclusively pumped previously and got really badly engorged. A frozen cabbbage leaf in the bra really helped. Apparently it can help you wean - I couldn’t tell you why though!

I would express what you need to reduce the pain but go cold turkey with the breastfeeding so your boobs have an actual chance of reducing the milk supply. I think after three days of no feeding the milk starts to dissolve.

What happens if you wake the baby for a feed whenever you wake up engorged?

By the way, can I ask how old your baby is? Oversupply is common in the early weeks but usually settles down on its own.

Also how long has the night-time engorgement problem been going on for? When baby suddenly starts sleeping longer stretches it usually takes a few days to adjust.

Thanks @Fleur405 am now following Olivia so will check out her content, will also give the cabbage leaves a go!

@IAgreeWithBryanCaplan so baby is almost 8 weeks and only wakes once in the night for a feed since birth! The stretches have gotten longer over the last couple of weeks as time goes on but it’s not like she went from constantly feeding to sleeping through :( she’s also had a pre bed bottle pretty much the whole time!
