DD is 7 and a half weeks old and BF.
She goes down for the night at 12pm and wakes at 4am for a feed, then we are up at 8am for a feed and the rest of the day.

Is it ok for her to go through without this feed?
Will it affect my milk supply?

Lucky you! I'd enjoy the extra sleep...

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 11/01/2008 10:35

Don't worry about it.

Your supply won't be affected it will adjust. If you dd continues to sleep through the 4am feed your supply will adjust to the change. If after a few weeks she starts waking up again, your supply will adjust and start to produce more again.

Oh, and well done you two, it's a big step when they start to sleep more - for both of you.

GoodGollyMissMolly · 11/01/2008 10:42

I know lucky me , I still woke up at 4am and DH said to leave her if she doesn't wake. SO I left her and she didn't wake, but I have been up since 6am when I woke again. I was leaking all over so I had to come down and express the milk.

DD didn't wake till 7.50am for a feed!! and she was ravenous bless her, and she is now sleeping again.

It all sounds so familiar!!!

The leaking should hopefully stop within a week - laying on a towel helps!

Thanks everyone, I was just worrying about my milk supply diminishing.

I bet she wakes up for it tonight, lulling me in to a false sense of security thinking I'm getting a few more hours sleep

One swallow and all that.
DD slept through for approx 7-8 hours (bliss eh) and never had a problem with milk supply if your worried just express some if you can get up 1 hour before. But reall I'd just enjoy the rest. Okay how do you start conversations?

JingleyJen · 11/01/2008 11:02

DS1 started skipping his 3am feed at 6 weeks and that extended each week so he went 12-6 then 12-6.30 then when he was sleeping till 7 I started waking him at 11 for his feed. by the time he was 12 weeks he was sleeping 12 hours - it didn't make any difference with my supply and I fed him to 10 months

snowleopard · 11/01/2008 11:03

As they get older, your breasts become more efficient and produce the milk to order, so you get less engorging and leaking. The sleeping through is great! - and all part of the natural process so your milk supply will adapt to it.

GoodGollyMissMolly · 11/01/2008 11:09

Jinglyjen, wow 12 hours, really, bliss

AVG, I will deffo enjoy the rest, DD sleeping just seemed to get better as soon as she hit that magical 6 week milestone, waking once a night and now not at all !!

Snowleopard, now you mention it, I have noticed my breasts becoming less engorged and they actually feel rather soft now, like they are empty!! But obviously are not.

Lucky you. Was this the first night she did this. Sometimes , when they are dropping a feed, they may not automatically drop it every night. I mean she may want a 4am feed tonight, but not tomorrow.
Don't worry about it. Enjoy.

GoodGollyMissMolly · 11/01/2008 11:21

Oblomov, yep it was the first time she has done this. There was no build up to it, just like when she started to settle at nights from 6 weeks, it just happened one night and she has been doing it ever since

OP posts:
TiddlerTiddler · 11/01/2008 11:21

you are soooo lucky! we are 6 months and still waking 3 times during the night!!!

Oblomov · 11/01/2008 11:34

I understand. Ds did similar. He dropped the 10pm feed, but it was a bit on/off for a few days.
Then at 13 wks he dropped the 2am feed, but that was immediate. And he slept through from 7-6 from then on.
She may drop it or want it tonight..... do-do-do - we will see.
Please don't WORRY.
This is what most of the mums on mumsnet would give their last rolo, for

GoodGollyMissMolly · 11/01/2008 13:03

lol at last rolo.

Don't get me wrong it is wonderful that she slept through, I just didn't expect it this early and it is a bit of a shock to the system after getting used to a couple of hours sleep in any 24 hour period.

Goodgolly I posted something similar re DD who is 5wks and has dropped off a night feed for the past 4 nights. She was a small baby and has lost a bit of weight, so HV advised us to try and squeeze in an extra feed somewhere during the day.

I'm with you - not complaining but just wondering if it'll last!! Was a bit re weight loss but going to do an extra feed 11pm-ish, hopefully that will sort it out.

GoodGollyMissMolly · 12/01/2008 06:56

Caz that your DD has lost a bit of weight, hopefully that 11pm feed will help you both.

DD slept through again last night. I have been up since 4am, I think I have got used to her waking up that is why I am awake.

DH and I went out last night so DD was on EBM from about 9pm and she has only just had a feed. My breast pump broke yesterday afternoon so I went and got another but I'm not getting on well with it, so as you can probably imagine I am a bit uncomfortable at the moment as I cant pump. Gonna have to go out and buy yet another pump!!!!

Caz10 · 12/01/2008 12:21

how is she getting on switching between boob and bottle missmolly? i think a bottle of ebm every now and again would help me get an extra feed squeezed in, but i'm scared she won't go back on my boob!

Bodkin · 13/01/2008 12:52

Havent read the rest of the posts but my DD2 did this at about the same age, and I was concerned... she did cluster feed all evening though, and I was reassured on here that if she was doing that it was quite possible she could go through the night like that. Then at about 11 weeks (when she stopped cluster feeding) she went from 7-7 a few times.. Imagine my joy! Short lived though i'm afraid, she usually has 1 or 2 feeds a night now and she's 6 months. So enjoy it while it lasts

MsSparkle · 13/01/2008 13:10

My dd did that! She started going through at 7/8 weeks and has ever since and she is 15mths old now!

People used to say to me enjoy it while it lasts so don't lisen to them because your dd could be like mine and never wake in the night!

GoodGollyMissMolly · 13/01/2008 22:43

Caz, tbh I was really worried about DD not going back on the boob as well. It took a couple of attempts to get her to take the bottle at first, but when she did she was fine going between boob and bottle. We started giving her EBM at about 3 and a half weeks old.
Early I know, but we have never had any probs with BF, so I felt ok about it.

We use those Breastflow bottles, but tbh she also has tommy tippie ones and is fine with those.

DH gives her a feed a night for me now, just so I can have a bit of time without a baby attached to my boob for 6 hours solid. DD cluster feeds from 6pm till 12 midnight then sleeps. DH also does any night time feeds, on a weekend, if she wakes up for a feed.

Bodkin, I am enjoying it now that I'm not worrying about it IYSWIM. I no longer feel like a zombie.

MrsSparkle, that sound good, I hope my DD will continue to go through now, but I realize that she may start to wake again in the night.
