9 month old still not eating solids

Hi everyone

I have posted a few threads about my DS's eating habits over the last few months. To say he has been a difficult boy to feed is an understatement! Thankfully that all calmed down and he drinks his milk like a champ these days.

My issue is the damned solids. I'm fresh out of ideas. He is 9 months old and is still having 5 x 7oz bottles a day and will not even take a bite of solids. I have tried offering him solids in-between mill feeds, before milk feeds, reducing milk feeds, spoon feeding, finger foods you name it I have tried it. He just won't eat. He also has 4 teeth so chewing is not the issue. I have got the HV involved and when I spoke to her on the phone and told her she sounded very concerned and told me to keep a food diary for a week of what we offer him and what times etc.

I'm just after some words of reassurance that someone else has gone through something similar and that it should get better?

I did BLW with three kids DS did the whole gagging thing and came around to food at a pace but was eager to try and DD2 ate a Sunday roast at 6 months without a pause.

DD1 just couldn't get it and I wouldn't say she ate meals or proper solids reliably until 12 months. They were all BF and as long as your baby is maintaining weight and passing urine and poo I would give them time

Yup, I went through this. Not a solid passed his lips until he was just over 12 months old then, one day, completely out of the blue, instead of lobbing the offered titbits on the floor he ate them (it was a streamed carrot baton and some roast chicken). From that day forward we made great strides. He is now 2, I am still not allowed to put a spoon in his mouth but he will eventually try new things for himself (especially if they come from my plate). I started weaning at 5 months (under the guidance of his SaLT) and used to often joke I should just cut out the middleman and throw his meals on the floor myself, the dog used to think he had died and gone to heaven most mealtimes.

My first took a long while to get into food, and even then he mostly just ate jars of egg custard or yogurts - ie really milky sweet food, much like the milk he was used to I guess. Perhaps we shouldn't have encouraged that, but the health visitor had made me feel awful that he wasn't eating solids yet and it was all he would eat for ages so we went with it.

My DD was pretty similar. One thing that helped us at that age was DH taking her downstairs for breakfast before her first feed. They got to spend some time together and I got a shower on peace Smile

Just wondering with the other meals if you're trying to feed him or if you're simply plonking something onto his high chair and letting him throw it on the floor try to self feed whilst you get on with with your meal?

Are you eating with him?

My first took ages.We went on holiday when they were about 10 months and they were up at the table with four adults eating tit bits off our plates. They very quickly got the knack after that.
My others were much quicker although the youngest liked the ease of being spoon fed.I always thought that they were watching older subs and just learned from them what to do.
