dull topic no doubt but would appreciate some feedback cos I want to bring it up at a few meetings - opinions please.
on our recent trip to paediatrics with dd for bronchiolitis we were given a bottle of water with sma advertising all over it and a teat (ie shouting baby formula to my biased eyes). amusingly dd didn't have a clue what to do with a teat but gave it a good chew (yes, just like my nips then).
anyhow, this got me thinking. our hospital is going for baby friendly status and I see this kind of bottled water thing as sending a few subtle messages to families. first off, endorsing sma as a good choice of formula cos the hospitals use it, secondly pushing the whole formula message. quite possibly I am getting too much up my own arse about it. do let me know
so should I ask the hospital to ditch the sma water and use non branded stuff instead or is it no big deal?

The bottled water was used yes, just as a drink in itself, you know how some people think babies need cool boiled water in between feeds? It wasnt to mix with formula.

Anyone that asks me if they can have a bottle of water, i tell them we dont supply it anymore. Also newborn baby doesnt need it in addition to breast/artifical milk, but if they want to give it at home then of course thats their choice.

yousaidit, sorry i didn't realise your situation. this is so depressing though, the insidiousness...

yousaidit · 09/01/2008 22:15

possibly, i can see a mutual sense of cheery arsiness about a few posts that lack the dithery touch quite often seen on a few posts!!!! I don't work in a hosptial though, christ that would be problem!! Ha ha ha!!!!!!!

verylittlecarrot · 09/01/2008 22:15

Some of the feeding threads make me arsey tho, so im keeping clear!!

carmenelectra · 09/01/2008 22:19

Sorry carrot, wasnt being rude to you either! Im just distracted

yousaidit · 09/01/2008 22:22

Ha ha, don't worry v.l.c: tbh, when i saw the jars i just thought 'eh?' then 'oooh, magic!' i am quite happy to suggest that all the label should be peeled off by charitable workers who would do this for free to remove all advertising! And it promotes etreeemeeeeeeeeeeeeee idleness, doesn't it? It's just a shame that when you look at the state of the kettle in te parents room, you think, there is no way i would use that to boil water for my child! There are some dirty s in hospitals!!! A crap but in odd ways useful means to an end for us really.
