Underwired bras and long-term feeding

Ds2 is 14m and I'm fed up of unflattering feeding bras. I can't get on with feeding in an ordinary bra, but is there any reason why I shouldn't cannibalise a 'real' underwired bra and turn it into a feeding bra?

DS is 17 months and still bf, think I switched back to my underwires around 11/12 months. TBH my boobs are a bit smaller than they were before (still something ridiculous like a G cup tho) so there is room to jsut pull the cup down when DS wants fed. Also he doesn't feed huge amounts in the day any more, so quick release is less of an issue

suzywong · 09/01/2008 14:31

never seemed to do me anyharm, norks or child

MaeWest · 09/01/2008 14:31

Pretty sure that Bravissimo do underwired feeding bras so would think 'cannabalising' would be fine.

NotQuiteCockney · 09/01/2008 14:33

I just use normal underwired bras, and undo them when I need to feed.

If you don't get engorged any more, underwires should be fine.

sweetkitty · 09/01/2008 14:33

Think I went back to underwire bras when DD2 was about 8 months old and not needing to feed outside, I had outside bras but when indoors I still had my old feeding bras.

I believe you can get underwire feeding bras now, I will have to do some research.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 09/01/2008 14:35

I feed a 21mo and wear normal underwired bras (just push down the cup and pop out the nip).

Sorry to be personal, but do those of you who manage to feed in ordinary u/w bras have large breasts? I'm a 38E or 40DD, and I just find it too uncomfortable getting the boob over the top of the cup.

OP posts:
serenity · 09/01/2008 14:38

I stopped wearing feeding bras when DD was about 1 as well - by that time they'd gone back to 'normal' and needed the extra help!

NotQuiteCockney · 09/01/2008 14:41

I have v small breasts, 36B, if that. But I lift up the cups, I don't lift the boobs. There is some risk, then, of the wires pressing into my boobs and causing mastitis, but I'm careful.

PrettyCandles · 09/01/2008 14:42

Doh, why din't I think of that? Going under rather than over.

his thread has really inspired me to make a visit to bravissimo. ds 14 months too and the nursing bra situation really getting on my nerves. Oh the idea of being 'uplifted' again!!! sure you understand my excitement.

serenity · 09/01/2008 17:35

Mine aren't as large as yours (D cup at the time iirc) no, I couldn't go over either - I did the same as NQC. I should say that by this time I was only ever bfing at home so being discrete wasn't an issue.

PrettyCandles · 09/01/2008 18:57

I do need to be discreet as ds2 still bfs during the day. I shall try going under. But if anyone knows where I can try on u/w feeding bras...?

(Last time I went to Bravissimo they didn't do u/w feeding bras.)

im a 34e and just wear a normal underwired balconette bra, just push down the cup yank out m'boob and we're away.

MrsBadger · 09/01/2008 19:16

underwired nursing bras

thefabfour · 09/01/2008 20:06

PC- my DS3 is 8 months and I had enough of unflattering feeding bras about a month ago. I bought one of the 'Anita' underwire feeding bras and haven't looked back.

I too have large boobs- 34E pre-pregnancy, now 36F/G(!!) and don't think I would be able to hoist them over (or under) an ordinary bra

Tutter · 09/01/2008 20:08

mrsbee has linked to anita bras - i'm forever raving about them on here

the lace one is great - flattering and comfy

have literally only taken mine off to shower since ds2 was born

worley · 09/01/2008 20:13

im the same size booba s you and wore the anita bra that i got from figleaves. it had no effect on my supply and was very comfy. would recommend it to you

Olihan · 09/01/2008 20:21

I've been wearing the Anita underwired bf bra since ds2 was about 3mo. I've never had a problem with blocked ducts, etc and love the fact it gives me a bit of shape and boost!

Jacanne · 09/01/2008 20:36

I've been wearing the underwired Anita feeding bras for about 2 years and never had a problem - just make sure you get a good fit

cornflakegirl · 09/01/2008 20:37

I'm an H cup, and have been wearing my wires to feed for a couple of years. As long as I wear a plunge style, I can go over the top without a problem.

saggers · 10/01/2008 22:17

I used proper nursing bras at first, but moved on to underwired bras at about 18 months. I just flop them out over the top when I need to, and scoop them back in when I've finished.

pinkspottywellies · 10/01/2008 22:21

I'm a 34g and have to go under but usually undo the back or I get a bit squished! I went back to normal bras after about a year, as other's have said I don't feed so much in the day now.

PillockOfTheCommunity · 10/01/2008 22:26

I have found that different styles of bra work better for this, I'm 32d and getting nursing bras is bloody difficult. I just try on some and see which works best
