My SIL had a bouncing baby boy early this morning and he has tongue tie. The midwife is visiting today to have another look but obviously this could impact on his feeding - he has fed for 20 mins but is actually sleeping lots which sounds fine to me. My SIL has successfully bfed her first to a year and is very keen to bfeed again.

Anyway she is 200 miles away and I just thought that if I could gather some experiences and advice from you lovely MNers then she could log on and get some support.

Thanks in advance.

Mr Griffiths wouldn't do my ds tongue-tie! I'm still a bit annoyed as i offered to go private. All I got was a telephone conversation with him.

yogi why not? How old was your ds? Presumably without a referral he couldn't? I had been referred by the hospital infant feeding advisor.

I was referred by my midwife. My ds at the time was about 2 weeks old. Mr Griffiths said if he had a problem with solid food then to get back in touch with him.

my DS2 was 2wks when referred and 4wks when done.

HOWEVER.....I was absolutley insistant and as DS2 was in fact DC5 and also he was having feeding issues already (my nipples AND his latching and weight), there was no contest....he saw, did and signed off.

not sure whether the same outcome would have be forthcoming if DS2 had been DC1.....

Just to let you know that my SIL is going to see a GP privately who will do an assessment and hopefully snip the tie....she really appreciated all your advice BTW so thanks again.

Just to say that my nephew had his tongue tie snipped today. The GP thought it was quite severe but was still impressed that the MW had picked up on it - he said that most were picked up at the 6 week check when the mum said she'd stopped bfing due to the pain.

Apparently his grandaughter was tongue tied and so he developed an interest and went on a course to do the snip. He is in Taunton for future reference and cost £40.

Anyway, both mum and baby much happier with the new no fuss and pain free feeding regime.

We are going to visit him on Sat - yippee!!!

my DS's tongue tie caused real feeding issues. Milk didn't come in, he lost loads and had to go to SCBU. we had the tt divided at the John Radcliffe in Oxford when he was 2 weeks, he didn't even scream! Noticed the difference in feeding the same night, and the next day my milk arrived. I'm now able to bf and DS is growing nicely. I'd recommend the snip sooner rather than later!

Oh, just seen it's already done! good luck xx
