well my main reason is that im worried that when i want to stop dd wont let me, and if i stopped now i dont think ill have a problem, but if dd is older she may find it harder to stop

will it be traumatic for dd if i stop when shes older
?

Tapster, you might need to check this out more thoroughly. Pharmacologically-induced drowsiness is not in itself a good thing for a toddler, you are right, but will enough really get in to the milk to have this effect? 'Scuse the scepticism, but I have come across too many women told their meds will have an effect and it just isn;t true.

RRB,

Would second the advice about lazy latch - I suffered a bit when DD2 was about 12 months and got a big bite which took ages to heal - ouch. Had to make myself correct the latch - not easy when DD2 preferred position at the time was standing up on the bed with her bum in the air.

I stopped bfing DD1 at 8 months and faffed about with formula and bottles, still bfing DD2 at 21 months and she went straight on to cow's milk in a mug. Much easier.

Can't tell you how easy it'll be to wean her as I haven't tried yet. She can take it or leave it if I'm away so maybe I'll have to go on an exotic holiday for 2 weeks on my own whilst she forgets about booby.

yeah totally agree its not worth worry about till it happens
otherwise you'd never go on holiday would you as you'd be too depressed when it was over

Tapster

I agree with tiktok, why not try it, you can always stop the bf if she does seem drowsy.

Sorry to gate crash bt I wanted to share my experience.

I went for my 6 week check up yesterday. The first crap thing that happened is they made me wait nearly an hour- They know I have a 6 week old baby -I think thats really bad.
Then when I was finally seen the female doc asked me about contraception so I told her I wanted the mini pill for a few months becasue we want to try for another baby in April or May. I asked her what I could do to increase chances of conception when I was exclusively breast feeding. She said oh your baby will nearly be 6 months so you could just stop BF. I said I don't want to stop BF at 6 months and was wondering if she had any advice on conception and BF. She said there is no benefit to BF after 6 months and it just makes you tired. I was a bit pissed off TBH. That is her opinion and she made me feel like BF after 6 months is done only for the benefit of the mother.

I don't appreciate when HCP put their own opinions on to you. I just want medical advice. I also had minor surgery when DD was 3 weeks old and the doc told me if I got an infection I would have to give up BF which is rubbish- at worst I would have had to express during infection and then carry on after. I do not have any problem with FF but I think HCP should respect what mums are trying to do and not say thoughtless things to new mums.

Hi Fiona,

Sadly this seems to be an ongoing problem with HCP and the feeding after 6 months issue.

BTW well done you for being able to think about the next baby with a 6 week old!!
