Incorrect diagnosis of milk allergy

I have an 8 week old DS who has reflux and mild rash on his face. Had a private pead appointment who specialises in gastroenterology and I mentioned could it be CMPA?
He said that it highly unlikely, its overdiagnosed due to the Internet forums. Told me by all means to try exclusion, but does not recommend it. The pead is Andrew Sawczenko (have few recommendations before visiting him)

Has anyone have any experience of eliminating dairy for colicky baby, only for it to not work?

Most threads on Mumsnet are highlighting the benefits of going dairy free

Just to add my newborn is EBF

Please give any advice

Both of our sons were dairy intolerant until c 6 years old. Our eldest had terrible reflux for the first 18 months despite being put on lactose free milk at 3 months old. It was only when his brother was born and was seriously Ill for the first 3 months (went from 10lbs at birth to 7lbs weight. after 1 month), that we were advised that both boys were severely dairy intolerant. We were also told initially by the hospital consultant that dairy intolerance was over diagnosed. The moment my younger son switched to dairy free milk, he started regaining weight and the skin rash he had stopped - this was after three months in and out of hospital, numerous blood tests, and weigh ins, and us being told he was “failing to thrive”. At 3 months we saw a specialist, Adam fox, who was excellent. Moving to a dairy free diet made all the difference to both my children - my oldest sons bowel took years to recover after being incorrectly diagnosed with reflux as a baby. I definitely would not rule dairy intolerance out - neither of my children were allergic to dairy, but the impact of them being intolerant to dairy was huge for us.

What’s the risk of trying? As long as you can eliminate from your diet. It’s the only way to know, then if things seem to improve, reintroduce dairy again - and if things get worse again it confirms the diagnosis. Maybe it is over diagnosed… or maybe it was previously under diagnosed? Who knows - but do what you feel is best for your baby.

You won't lose out through testing it through elimination if ebf. It'll only take a couple of weeks to see a difference if it is

Dairy allergy is very common in children and adults. My son was diagnosed at 4m he's now six and can tolerate small amounts of dairy. It could be worth a try . You would need to do it for at least few weeks. Dairy's in lots of food including gravy , some crisps, some breads. So you need to check every label . My son is also allergic to soya, the proteins in it are similar so I cut both out.
