I feel so stupid< thought i had another box.
I've run out of formula!! Sent DP out looking for a shop thats open- No luck so far.

What should i do if we can't get any. DS is more than likley to wake up for a night feed. Would it be ok to give him Cows milk???
He's 9mo i know you shouldn't give it till their 1yr. Will it do any harm?? Pls advise me someone..

Look in your local paper to find the nearest chemists that open till 11.

crokky · 05/01/2008 22:37

can you give him some diluted juice instead?

meep · 05/01/2008 22:37

Get online and check all your local supermarket/shop opening hours - there must be an all-nighter somewhere. Really don't know about the cows milk. All I can think of is to give him some cooled boiled water and hope it tricks him into thinking he's had a feed. Good luck !

JeremyVile · 05/01/2008 22:37

Isn't there such a thing as an out of hours chemist?

I'm sure all areas are meant to be serviced by a pharmacy that is open through the night.

I know there used to be a list in our local paper listing which pharmacy covered which night.

Maybe this info will be online somewhere?

24hrs TEsco, Sainsbury, Asda???

Monkeybird · 05/01/2008 22:38

I don't think it is likely to do any harm at all if you must give one drink of cows milk, especially if he's already had dairy in form of cheese, butter, yoghurt etc...

Advice is not to give it as their MAIN milk until 1 year but that doesn't mean they can't have it at all in other food...

I'm sure you'll be fine if you can't get any till tomorrow.

Or just give water or dilute juice if you're really worried...?

Tangas · 05/01/2008 22:38

But is cows milk ok for him??

BettySpaghetti · 05/01/2008 22:39

Surely you must have a friend or neighbour who could give you some?

Nobody will mind you ringing/knocking and asking, after all they'll have babies and know how important it is.

yelnats · 05/01/2008 22:39

Why dont you use tonight as the first night to stop the night feed and send dp out first thing to get some? Is def worth a try - if he gets up you could simply offer water - might be tricky but after a few nights he might just not bother getting up.

JeremyVile · 05/01/2008 22:39

Petrol station with a minimarket attached such as an m&s or sainsburys local?

stripeymama · 05/01/2008 22:40

Is this any help?

chocolatespiders · 05/01/2008 22:41

24 hr asda tesco shut at 10 on sat night

Jojay · 05/01/2008 22:41

Has he had cows milk on cereal yet, or in a sauce?

As long as he's not allergic to it, he should be fine.

It's not recommended as a main drink before one because the balance of nutrients is not quite right for babies.

However, one or two feeds are highly unlikely to cause any problem at all - I'm sure most of us were on cows milk at that age!!

Lots of people I know gave their babies the odd drink of cows milk at this age

stripeymama · 05/01/2008 22:41

TBH I'd use cows milk though, will not actually harm him as a one off.

Tangas · 05/01/2008 22:42

excellent.. Thanx ladies. I'm gonna just try him with a little bottle of cows milk. Should be fine till tomorrow. But thanx for the quick responces. Fingers crossed he sleeps straight through!!!

stripeymama · 05/01/2008 22:42

Or plain yoghurt mixed with warm water maybe - have a book that suggests that in an emergency.

chocolatespiders · 05/01/2008 22:44

if it comes to it i am sure most petrol station would sell it

best of luck

dingdong05 · 05/01/2008 22:45

I probably wouldn't give cows milk (although I agree it probably won't do any harm, but I am a fretter ) But some cooled boiled water will fill his tummy enough to get him back to sleep. It is one technique suggested to help cut down on night time feeds after all.
Deep breath though, it's not the end of the world, and you are not a bad mother! lol

I'm the bad mother, I once ran out of nappies in the middle of the night

Tangas · 05/01/2008 22:52

Hows best to get him off the night feeds? I notice quite a few of you have mentioned it.
I just feed him to get him back off to sleep. He's not eating much solids either, DP reckons that cutting out the night feed will make him want to eat more solids during the day. Could he be right?

OP posts:
colditz · 05/01/2008 22:55

I think he is right, but that's only if your baby is ready to drop that night feed. You can dilute it more and more, so that gradually it is just a bottle of water and if they aren't hungry they won't wake for it.

Staceym21AtLast · 05/01/2008 23:01

where are you?

i knwo theres a 24hr chemist in streatham (surrey)

maybe you can find one near you

if you have to give cows milk it will be ok, dd went onto cows milk at 9mo as she refused formula at that age. hasnt done her any harm and shes 3.2 now!

PillockOfTheCommunity · 05/01/2008 23:03

the reason that cows milk is not recommended as a main drink is that it is low in iron and other nutrients that are important at this age. but for one night it won't do any harm.

You might have to start your own thread as this was one from 2008!

It would also help to know how old your baby is and what the "different milk" is.
