DS just brought up what looked like his whole feed!

He is 10 weeks and BF - he was sick three times in a row and it was loads. A lot more than he has ever done before. I feed him from the other side and he went to sleep. Is this something to be worried about or just typical baby behaviour?

Hi Stefka

My 12 week old has days when he does similar. As long as he doesn't have a temperature, his poohs are normal and you're getting wet nappies, I've been told it's fine.

I took DS to the doctor once after he threw up 2 feeds in 1 afternoon, and he was very understanding and checked him over but he was fine. If you're worried, phone NHS direct- you'll speak to a nurse who'll talk you through it, but my experience is that sometimes it just happens, who knows why!

Hi Stefka, it is very worrying when they do this. Like yetihed says, as long as they don't have a temperature and nappies are normal, I'm sure he'll be fine. My dd3 did this at around the same age - except she threw up the whole feed in one go - and seemed to do this once every week or so. She's now a very happy, healthy 23 month old! If you are concerned about it though, it may be worth mentioning to the health visitor/if you take him to a weight clinic.

Coby · 04/01/2008 20:28

Stefka - my DD2 used to do this from time to time too. Used to scare me to death, it's horrible isn't it?

Hope you are reassured by the posts so far, if not, no doctor is going to mind you asking their opinion when your DS is so young.

meep · 04/01/2008 20:36

Stefka - don't worry - my dd did this! Sometimes it was projectile - 6 months on I am still finding little milk splats on my wooden floor that I have missed (my cleaning has not been great since she arive ). It does calm down - and become small but very smelly regurgitations!!! I think when they are wee they sometimes have an air bubble that unfortunately brings all the milk up with it. As everyone has said - if you ds has lots of wet nappies he is getting enough milk!
Happy cleaning!

if they are gaining weight they should be fine. when my ds is in a puley mood i try to get him to take it slowly and not gulp so much at the start.

Maveta · 04/01/2008 21:02

i agree with meep - my ds puked a lot when he was little and I think it is when the majority of the feed is caught on a bubble so it just all comes up. He´ll ask for more when he realises he´s still a bit hungry!

Staceym21AtLast · 04/01/2008 21:20

i would say its possible he has reflux, but do not worry they very often grow out of it.

it's when the muscle at the top of the stomach isn't brilliantly formed and not strong enough to hold the milk down when they burp..

my ds had this until he was about 13mo, but its often grown out of in the first 4 months, most dcs grow out of it by 6 months and very very few go on until 1, my ds being one of the few

if hes eating happily i woudl say dotn worry at all. i only got bothered when ds wouldnt take milk as he hated being sick. but thats a whole other subject.

keep doing what your doing, the clearing up isnt that bad!

Hi,

I know how you feel, it can be so frightening and you think they must be hungry and it feels like your feeing for britain.

My dd was a puker, it turned out to be wind, but she started vomiting at about 12 weeks and didn't stop till she started solids.

As above, as long as he's well in other ways, like normal nappies and normal temperature then I wouldn't worry too much. If you can't stop thinking about it, then call NHS 24, they're usually great, I've called about a million times about so many things

Good luck

Stefka · 05/01/2008 10:42

Well he slept for eight hours afterwards so I guess he wasn't starving! He's a bit of a pukey baby but doesn't usually bring up so much. It's been less this morning so hopefully it was a one off.
