Should I see GP or am I being paranoid?

DS is 5.5m and I posted last week about his current windy spell. Thing is, it hasn't passed, he's producing intermittent green nappies, is straining and restless, and it's really disturbing his sleep. He's really feeding a lot but I suspect it's for comfort ... I'm having the odd wibble of confidence re my supply but it's never been a problem for me before and I think it's just because I'm not feeling full.

It's been around a week of unsettledness, grunting and moaning now, some good days, some bad, but I know how bad he gets when overtired and I'm worried we're heading there.

Would a GP help do you think, or is it just a case of riding it out? Also, I assume common sense is to hold off weaning until he's settled again? It would be BLW so he won't get much anyway. I've been off dairy and giving Infacol for a few days, no appreciable difference so far though.

Chubby, unless your baby is ill, then I would guess a GP would not be much help....very few of them have a clue about normal breastfeeding, and to be honest, you are putting yourself at risk of having your confidence undermined (read on mumsnet all the threads about what they are told by GPs!). I suppose you are thinking the GP will confirm he is not ill, which might be a valid reason for seeing him/her.

What about your health visitor? Would she not be a better option? You will already know to be a bit scepitical if she says anythiing crazy about bf!

I would say that if he is still feeding and producing lots of wet nappies then that's good.

Also, if no temperature is apparent - also good.

Do go and see your GP if you feel he is unwell though - always better to check. Just remember that whatever your GP says - b/feeding is always going to be better than giving water, solids or anything else.

I'd see GP in case ds is ill but take any advice about b/f with a large spoonful of salt - GPs generally don't know much about it, they don't get any training in b/f.

I think ride it out then - he's cheery enough and can be distracted, it's just when he's trying to get to sleep that I can feel him tensing and getting sore.

Boobs it is then.

Thanks - sometimes you just need some reassurance

Feeling less full is normal around now - your supply gets really adjusted or something, and you just stop getting engorged, or as engorged, anyway.

And I second (third, forth, whatever) the 'he's fine, don't go see your GP' advice.
