how do I defrost frozen breastmilk?

says it all really. Froze some last night in the freezer and 7wk old DS2 refuses to take formula in a bottle so I'm going to try him with expressed breast milk and see if it's the formula he hates or the bottle.

Run it under a warm tap if you're desperate or just let it defrost in the sink. It defrosts really fast because of the high fat content (and I assume you're not defrosting a gallon of it!)

so how long would it take to defrost if I just left it out? Don't need it until tonight

Smiling, you know you can keep EBM in the fridge for up to 8 days? I say this because some babies don't like EBM as much after it had been defrosted - odd, but true!

BTW some babies are fussy about taking a bottle so keep perservering. Just put a couple of ounces in at a time so that you're not throwing your precious milk down the sink too if he doesn't take it.

Did you bfeed last time? I only ask as I would say that giving EBM is a much better option than formula in terms of your supply etc if you can manage to express - I'm not criticising as I mixed fed DD1 BTW.

Thanks LL. DS1 took to the bottle no problem (or so I can remember - may be a little rose tinted!!), but DS2 seems to hate it - gags, chokes etc. But he has taken 3oz from one before with no prob so I know he could do it - he just prefers the boob - typical man!

Maybe try a different teat?

TBH I just bfed DD2 and it was much easier in the long run. She did have a bottle or two really early on but then I just couldn't be bothered by it all and am still bfing at 21 months!

I've just bought some tommee tippee closer to nature bottles, but will keep reciept until DS2 has tried bm in the old avent bottle - really don't want to bf for 21 months! BUt good on you for keeping at it!

I always used plain old Avent.

I didn't envisage bfing this long either but at least it keeps the broody hormones at bay.
