Hi All

Just an FYI. We have just come across a news article regarding similac milk and it being recalled owing to four hospitalizations for Cronobacter sakazakii Only effects formula mae in the US however we have recently checked our tins and they have been produced in U.S so may effect others. Chemist in the UK seem to be lacking info but you can log on to

www.similacrecall.com and check tins (number on bottom)

That's why you're supposed to make the formula up with hot water >70⁰C. Some countries don't tell you to make it up with hot water and may be more at risk than those who do

Information on the recall only coming out from food standards agency tonight. Still no official line from nhs. It's been mayhem all weekend for CMPA mums trying to get alternatives in place with no support from GPs or pharmacies in many cases including my own.

This a photo of an article in the WallStreetJournal today with a few more details.

I am a nan, so don't have any children or DGC affected by this but I can feel your pain and anxiety over this announcement..it is hard enough to control mum guilt without things like this happening..it's inexcusable to me that this was allowed to happen.
My DC and DGC were formula fed and preferred their bottles at room-temp..so no boiled water involved...but I thought that had to do with bacteria in the water needing to be killed, not in the powder itself...I could be wrong as I frequently am.

No, the water needs to be hot to kill bacteria in the powder, not the water. In the UK the tubs tell you to make the formula up with water of 70⁰C to sterilise the powder

The CMPA formulas differ from the normal formulas. They usually instruct to make them up with cool boiled water as they have added probiotics-using 70oC water would destroy these.

Sweetpea1532 · 21/02/2022 17:36

Thanks for clearing that up, @dementedpixie
My DC were very fortunate not to get salmonella because of my ignorance !😳

GooglingFather · 22/02/2022 20:08

What CMPA have you been moved onto?

We are using nutramigen but think may need to move to amino acid formula
