Breastfeeding more at night

My baby is 6 months old and for the last couple of months she has been nursing more through the night than in the day. She is very fussy when i offer her a feed during the day and just feeds for 5 mins at a time. I'm worried that my supply has dropped during the day as my breasts feel empty. I'm not sure if this would even be possible as she is still feeding every 2 hours at night? I have tried google but getting no answers. So is it possible to have more milk in the night than day time? Or would i still produce the same?

I'd go by whether she's going enough wet and dirty nappies.

Feeding more at night is normal, if annoying. Breasts are clever things, they don't normally just run out - sometimes both boob and baby become more efficient so feeding is quicker.

I doubt it's your supply don't worry :)

Babies are often very nosey at this age and want to see what is going on and therefore they tend to be highly distractible when feeding which can mean they bob on and off. At night you're in a quiet dark room and they are too sleepy to be nosy.

Teething can also get in the way but I would try moving to a quiet boring place to feed in if you have the option to do that.

Do you have any breastfeeding support groups near you? It can be really reassuring to go along to these things and find that everyone else's baby is doing the same as yours is, I definitely found that anyway.

Yeah she is always content during the day and has about 6-8 wet nappies. They do get lighter as the day goes on though, they are really heavy soaked for the first 2-3 the the following ones are a bit lighter but they are wet every 2 hours when I change her. She has about 3 dirty ones every 2 days as well. I just worry that if she isn't feeding much during the day my supply will drop, I have been trying to pump once or twice a day but then I worry that she won't get enough if she wants to feed! I have a group that I have been to once and that actually did help so I might go back again. Thanks

At six months in your supply is already established and won't drop due to feeding patterns like this, so you don't need to worry about pumping, unless you want to store some milk. Also when you pump you are just removing excess milk, you won't be taking away from what your DD has so don't worry :)

I knew a nurse who did something like for days on, three days off work shifts so barely feeding DC at all then right back into it - her body just adapted and would rev up the milk when needed!

Agree with pp about feeding somewhere without distractions. If nappies are fine and she seems fine, I'd say things are fine! You're doing a good job so don't worry.

I have this issue too. With me, I think DS feeds for comfort as he hasn't taken to a dummy or thumb sucking.

When he becomes unsettled in the night he wants the boob! Could this be the case with you?

Im not really sure if this could be it as she does have a dummy and she seems to feed better at night. She does feed to sleep though so it could be a comfort thing. I know she can sleep without the boob though as i got up last night when i heard her stir and by the time i walked over to get her she was asleep again
