When do I get a pat on the back for my bf <tongue in cheek emoticon> and when does it become extended??

Gecko is 11 months on the 7th and she is still up every 2 hours in the night feeding and we still feed at least 3 times a day.

She loves it and so do I. I would only hope for a little longer unbroken sleep

is that true who moved?

cause Gecko doesn't have a bedtime so goes to sleep at different times each night but you can set your clock for 2 hours from then every time..

It's extended when it's the child that gives you the pat on the back (accompanied by a cute "thank you mummy" or such like).

TrinityRhino - sorry that wasn't very clear. Sounds like in your case the problem is NOT that Gecko is waking up after two hours - that's fairly normal, they only have 20 minute sleep cycles and will wake and then fall back asleep - but that Gecko is not going back to sleep without help.

With learned waking, they wake up every morning (in DDs case for a while a 2:22 exactly) and wail for milk and are convinced this is the right thing to do - ie patting shushing, tellling them you'll put them on ebay if they don't shut up etc. just doesn't work.

The answer in that case is to wake them fifteen minutes before that time and then resettle them, thus breaking the pattern.

Trinity - it's NOT YOUR FAULT - they are little wotsits sometimes. I am in exactly the same boat and it's not necessarily something you've done.

Have you tried 'pick up, put down' or waking Gecko up one hour and 45 minutes after putting down for the night?

TrinityRhinosDhWonHerAnIPOD · 04/01/2008 14:07

I haven't tried anything
I look at her sometimes and think she's still such a young little thing that just wants to be near me and feel secure all the time and I think I dont mind, I can do that

and if I could survive on no sleep and not turn into a shouty, crying loon that aches all over and cant cope then I wouldn't change a thing

I dont know how to try somehting really, I dont think she has enough routine in the day to ensure she has enough food
I have toruble with the whole weaning thing
I could neve do CC, I feel it is wrong for me and my babies.
I just want to do whats best but I'm not sure what that is
I love feeding her even at night, it's just what ack of sleep is doing to me that I dont like

I honestly think that DS needed a feed in the night until about 16 months, and it wasn't that he wasn't eating enough in the day.
The No Cry sleep solution is excellent, and is very inclusive of co-sleeping.
A huge pat on the back, and the shield of anti-bitty comments.
You know its getting extended when your nursling tells you that they want it, takes you by the hand and drags you to the venue of their choice, and sits you down for a nice tandem feed with Iggle Piggle...

Trinity - you have my sympathy - DD is exactly the same. However I've tried lots of things and many of them just don't work for us. We'd never do CC either (an oxymoron in my opinion, there is nothing controlled about abandonment).

I'm holding onto the theory that at 18 months they turn into little angels and sleep through - as I will have baby number two turning up two months after that, I have to believe that (otherwise I'd go nuts!)
