That's it really. I want to buy one, but which one is best?

I used an Avent hand one and it was fine. I didn't use it daily though. If I had I would have got quite frustrated putting all the bits together as it is quite fiddly.

trixymalixmasy · 31/12/2007 21:00

avent definitely.

Notquitegrownup · 31/12/2007 21:00

I was very happy with my Avent Isis handpump. I got that on the recommendation of the bfing clinic I went to, who had tried out lots, obviously.

Don't forget that you can hire electric ones from NCT though - they are good too.

If pumping is going to be occasional I would say avent one is fine. If your're going to be pumping regulary everyday then you'll probably find a electric one easier and quicker.
The meleda dual pump is quick and easy to operate from my own experience.

My Avent hand pump one was fab too. My friend who needed to feed her baby exclusively with expressed milk (baby needed medication added to each feed) preferred the automatic one as she said it was much quicker and more effective. I guess if you think you might be needing to express frequently or quickly (if you are returning to work for example) then you might prefer the auomatic version.

I found the avent one went together very quickly once I got used to it but at first it can be a bit daunting seeing all the bits and making sure they go together properly and cleanly.

x post - sorry

OK brand new mummy here so please feel free to ignore me oh bf gurus
I have a Tommee Tippee Freedom manual pump - I'm using it atm to relieve breast engorgement as milk has now come in. I have found it ok, pretty easy to take apart and put together, simple to operate. Plus comes with a handy box to sterilise it. Don't know how it would hold up for more frequent use, I suspect that I'll end up getting an electric one once I start expressing on a more regular basis.
It was £25 in Asda btw.

another vote for avent manual
Really hated the boots own electric one, had to replace it as it got nothing out!

I couldn't use manual ones. also found the avent manual one had a million pieces to wash and sterilise each time. (not something you check before you before).

old fashioned medela electric was fine. good value, only a couple of bits to wash. only down side was noise.

My avent hand pump was great. Whatever you do, don't buy the Boots own brand one - mine broke and can't be fixed

MrsBadger · 01/01/2008 11:35

now I found the Avent hand one rubbish - Tommy Tippee Freedom much better, also simpler to put together and doesn't blardy topple over all the time

strawberrylace · 01/01/2008 15:38

I agree that the Tommee Tippee one is the best - only 3 pieces, so it's easy and quick to put together. I found it really easy to get milk out with, and the bottle is quite small so it fills up quickly - makes it seem like you are getting somewhere with your pumping! Before I had a Boots own one - far too many pieces, and a massive bottle meant it was v disheartening to use

Unfitmother · 01/01/2008 15:39

I found the Avent Isis great.

JaamyBells · 01/01/2008 15:41

Another vote for the medela electric pump here. Although noisy, it's very simple to use and clean.

sushistar · 02/01/2008 10:53

Sorry if i'm hijacking, but has anyone tried the Lasinoh (is that how you spell it?) manual one? My mum gave it to us for xmas as I'd asked for one. havn't tried it yet - never expressed before, a bit nervous for spome reason!

cmotdibbler · 02/01/2008 16:42

Lactaline is fab, and can be got cheaply on ebay. Very easy to wash. Used mine up to 3 times a day 5 days a week for 10 months, and its still going strong.
