Videos of breastfeeding especially first feed?

Morning,
I'm expecting baby no 2 and would really like to breastfeed. I didn't manage it with DC1 because we were both really unwell after delivery but also I felt really unprepared when she was born. I realised I had no idea how to get her to latch for her first feed, no idea how to hold her for feeding (I was holding her in the crook of my arm like I would to FF). I think it would help me to watch videos of other women especially in those very early days. I've tried YouTube and there's one or two but I thought there might be other places I don't know? Facebook groups/other websites?
Thanks!

Do you have a local centre/ group for families. Many will offer face to face help before and after with breastfeeding. Ie we have a parent child centre that offers first Monday of the month, you can go when pregnant or after with baby.
Maybe ask midwife or local doctors if they can direct you.

If you can afford it you could look for a IBCLC lactation consultant and meet with them before birth. lcgb.org/find-an-ibclc/

Also search for biological nurturing and/or laid-back breastfeeding. If you read up about this concept you might feel more confident going into BF 2nd time around. It explains about how you can tap into your baby's natural feeding instincts and reflexes (and how a lot of BF advice hampers those reflexes) to help you both get feeding established.

Good luck Smile

La Leche league are extremely useful. They run an antenatal course and then meetings you can attend once baby is here - this is a great way to chat to other bf mums. They also do 1-1 support visa WhatsApp and email. They're just amazing!

As far as the first feed, you need to trust baby. They come out knowing exactly what to do! I had a section and they popped baby on my belly shortly after. It was amazing watching her make her way up and latch on. I made sure she didn't fall off but I didn't do anything else. The following feeds I did in either cross cradle or rugby hold. Look up the flipple technique to help get a good latch.

I also used silverware cups so had no nipple issues. I kept them in place with reusable breast pads I bought from patpat.

There's also a documentary called ' babies' on Netflix which has an episode on feeding - you can see the first feed on that.

Good luck 😀

These videos are really helpful.

Not sure about videos but I'd suggest having a Google and see if you have a local branch of La Leche League near you. They normally run drop in meetings and can offer loads of support.

Kelly Mom is an incredibly comprehensive sitedor all aspects if breastfeeding.

Thanks everyone! I'll work my way through all those really helpful suggestions.

If you're on Facebook then join Breastfeeding and Lactation Support UK. It is a fantastic group for information and support, admin can also help if you're struggling with things like latch once baby has arrived. I am 5.5months ebf my first, we had a tough start as my flat nipples and bad latch maid it tough but we got through!

These videos are really helpful.

I was going to link this website too. It'd be helpful if you have a breastfeeding support within your local council. We're able to get in touch with them when doing antenatal classes so hopefully you're able to find some

My midwife offered a session on feeding which I ended up doing with DD2 because I was hanging around doing the blood glucose test, I was fairly confident beforehand but went along with it and it was a really good session given with advice on hand expressing, good posture (dolly came out for that bit!) and some leaflets signposting support. Might be worth asking your midwife if they run a similar group?

But what everyone else said too, there’s a wealth of information out there!

The unicef baby friendly initiative has loads of information and videos. Im a nicu nurse and we use it for training and for our parents.

The quality is quite poor but I find this video amazing showing how a newborn baby can find the breast and latch on.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 08/02/2022 20:45

I don’t have any advice on videos, sorry. Just wanted to say when I had my DS the midwives in hospital were really good at helping me latch him on. I just couldn’t seem to do it but they did so easily.
I had to keep asking them every time I tried to feed him but they didn’t mind.
So I would just say don’t be worried about asking them to do it for you a few times so you can see how to.

I found this one the other day which is a woman who was struggling. Thought it was really helpful
