expressing really isn't a sign of how much milk you have!

I have an 8 week old fully b/f baby, and I am also expressing for a friend with a 5 week old who has had awful probs with breastfeeding and supply.
anyway, yesterday morning I did my big express of the day, a lovely 5oz. scalded it, bagged it, popped it in the freezer when ds woke up for food.
Oh no I think, I have expressed til none will come out- will there be enough for him?

no worries, he feeds happily and comes off the boob with gallons of milk spilling out of his mouth.
boobs are bloody clever things aren't they?

Oh, wow - well done you for expressing for your friend and bfing such a young baby yourself as well!

And yes, boobs v clever things - and expressing definitely not a measure of how much milk you have. I expressed yesterday for DS1 (he'd been sick and it turned out he had a respiratory infection) and got barely an ounce - yet DS2 feeds for ages and tells me my milk is nicer than apples (he's nearly two). I used to be able to express 9oz in ten minutes and donated a couple of litres to the milk bank myself. Amazing things, boobs!

I am quite enjoying it actually, ther eis something strangely satisfying about seeing all that milk come out. and knowing it is going to someone who needs it.
I'm only doing enough for about 1 or 2 feeds a day, but every little helps

Yep, I found that. Loved expressing in the early days of bf. That sounds odd, really, I guess?! But I loved hearing the milk psssssssss into the pump when I'd had a strong letdown!

oh yes, it's fab indeed. And I usually have a 3 yr old standing by cheering me on
"that's SOOO much boogie milk mummy"

Aww! DS1 used to ask to "hewp, hewp" (help) when I was expressing for DS2 - had a 21m age gap. He used to squeeze the pump a bit and laugh at the milk coming out!

That is such a lovely thing to do for your friend. If I couldn't breastfeed my DS I would love to have a nice friend like you who would do that for me

How much do you charge per oz?

fingerwoman · 31/12/2007 20:51

I will accept only chocolate and cake in payment lol
