Smelly, mucousy poo in 17 day old?

My baby girl is breast fed expressed milk. For the last few days, she has had very watery, mucousy yellow poos. They are also very very frequent, it's 6am and she's already done 5 today. I'm going to call the GP when they open at 8am today but wondering if anyone has had the same experience and it not be a problem? Think she has diarrhoea

I forgot to add, the last few have absolutely stunk. They've gone from that nice sweet smell to a sort of fishy, dog poo smell :(

Mucus if often a sign of cows milk protein allergy. If it smells vinegary too I would bet money on it.
Wish someone had told me that before I had my third baby. We had months of hell before the GP took me seriously.

It was cows milk protein allergy when my DD started having tons of strange smelling dirty nappies. These were followed by slow weight gains and eventually blood in the poo as well. It took several GP visits before it was taken seriously.

With my second child I’ve already given up dairy as he has awful eczema, but recently, my DS (16 weeks) had a couple of days of this and it turned out to be Covid.

They've now gone frothy - is this also something you've experienced?

Yeah absolutely. Frothy poop too. Is your baby also pooping around the clock and overnight too.

When my daughter was breastfeeding the breast feeding Colour told her that these were signs of the baby getting too much fore milk and not enough of the next stage milk. Her baby was only a few weeks old too. He would nod off after a few minutes feeding so she had to keep waking him up and block feed from just one boob for a C few hours before swapping to the next one

@zippityzip yup. GP said it's likely a tummy bug and thankfully she has been putting on weight. Still worried as hell though. Starting first day of cutting out dairy. Even if it's not the cause, it's worth a go.

Worth noting that a high proportion of CMPA babies are also allergic to Soy. I'm sure it can take a good few weeks for it to leave both of your systems if you're breastfeeding, so you may not notice an immediate change but definitely worth a go.

I find that GPs aren't really helpful with allergies/CMPA in babies, they write a lot of concerns off with virus' or "babies poop a lot". It's frustrating. May be worth asking for a referral to a dietician - takes a while to get one but they an arrange allergy testing and help you with what to eat etc. Took five weeks for mine to get in touch after I pushed at the GP for weeks.

My CMPA baby also gained weight like a trooper so it's a myth they don't gain well.
