Hi! My daughter is coming up to 6 months and we are going to start offering solids.

I'm keen to take a pretty relaxed, experimental approach to it and not rush anything. Ie I don't want to follow any books or anything (but I'll of course look into the subject and not go in blind)

Are there any top tips from any mumsnetters?

TIA Smile

Biggest tip I was given at the time was to start with veg. We started with broccoli. Get them used to the more bitter flavours before introducing sweeter.

And prepare for lots of mess.

Here's my top tips:

High chairs with detachable straps that can go through the washing machine are better.

She will need a bath after every meal at first.

You will need fabric stain remover. Especially if you feed her something containing berries or tomatoes.

Her poo and her spit up will both start stinking and her spit up won't be white anymore so dressing her in white clothes to hide the milk stains won't work like it used to.

Steer clear of bananas. They cause constipation.

Wow! A bath after every feed? How about a bib and a little bib jacket thing which covers arms and body and a wipe with a cloth after? I have 3 and have never given a bath after food! Again the tops you get forf feeding and bibs will get the stains....never used stain remover either....
Not sure I get the milk stains either, if baby is sick enough to be damp and uncomfy change them? My tip is enjoy, so much more rewarding than feeding a fussy toddler or older child!!

Get the book how to wean your baby
Only start if baby is ready. I didn't start until seven months.
