Neocate, how long till improvements?

DD has been prescribed Neocate to try after being on Nutramigen for a few weeks. At first the Nutramigen was working and she was a really happy baby, but then she gradually started getting worse again, crying during and after every feeding, with really bad gas pains and really unsettled.

It's day 2 of Neocate and I am completely aware it can take a couple of weeks or so to start seeing vast improvements, but DD is still crying during every bottle and refusing them once she gets half way as she was doing before.

Any idea how long till we start seeing some improvements at least with this?

Don't know on that one sorry. Have heard that it does taste pretty foul though. Have you tried adding vanilla essence or Nesquik to make it more palatable?

Have you had any improvements @PL2021?

PL2021 · 20/01/2022 08:38

@BunnyRuddington Not yet unfortunately, if anything she is getting worse when it comes to actually taking her feeds! So we are thinking maybe it is a taste issue, but now we don't know if the problems on the Nutramigen was a taste issue aswell, although for the first week on it she was fine and drank her bottles no problem, so we are very confused. Calling the GP back today to discuss things further. Honestly feeling so drained with all of this. Every feed is a constant battle

She will tense her whole body out and just go as straight as a board, almost as if in frustration with something? Or perhaps tummy pain? Even when trying to burp on the shoulder she is just stretching herself out and it's impossible to hold on to her and burp her at the same time

That sounds really tough. Do you think that's she's allergic to something else as well as the milk protein?

PL2021 · 20/01/2022 17:12

@BunnyRuddington I don't think so as she doesn't really show any other symptoms such as a rash or anything, and the GP doesn't seem to mention anything else it could be. She is also completely uninterested in her dummy today so I have considered if it could possibly be early signs of teething bothering her aswell. She does dribble a lot and chews her fists a lot also

It could be but they don't have to have a rash to have an allergy. When I was tested I have about 5 things that I react to, including milk, but only get eczema if I eat too many satsumas oddly, which is pants because I really love them! Smile

My son has a dairy allergy and I have always been told it can take 3-4 weeks to work out your system, so take it there for any thing.

Hi, do you have any updates on this? My daughter is exactly the same!! We've just been prescribed Neocate. Previously baby was on Nutramigen x

Ringmaster27 · 16/03/2022 14:32

With DC2 the improvement was almost instantaneous. He went into anaphylaxis as a tiny baby, and the first bottle of neocate he was given in the hospital, he chugged down like he’d never been fed before. That was the first time since this birth that he’d fed without screaming for hours afterwards. His symptoms had completely gone by day 3.

Did you see an improvement on neocate and how soon.

Gitty89 · 17/08/2023 18:49

hello, what was the outcome of this, our little one is actually the same and it’s so distressing!

PL2021 · 18/08/2023 09:04

Heyy! Oh bless you, I sympathise with you I really do, it's so tough. My little one is actually now nearly 2 so it seems like so long ago! I can't even remember now how long it took to see real improvements, but I hope it'll reassure you to know that eventually she did make huge improvements, and was like a whole new baby! She is now a right little character, completely over her cmpa, with cheese now being one of her favourite snacks! She is also still on the neocate for a bedtime bottle and still chugs it down! Hopefully it will start getting easier for you soon 💖
