Is some breastmilk better than none.
Ive returned to work and now only feed DD overnight. Is this ok or should I make the extra effort to express at work?

Kbaby, I have been feeding morning and night only - didn't express at work as I kept forgetting because of workload. I have now noticed that my supply as dropped but still have enough for those two shifts so I am not worried. Weaning is my next adventure . . . as you know.

Yes, absolutely, some is better than none at all. Although a baby will not have its virgin gut, it will still be receiving all those lovely antibodies.

I probably would express at work Kbaby, but you know me
Some breastmilk is definately better than none. You may actually find that if you express at work, you may well end up match your babe's need for milk when you start dropping milk feeds. You may well end up giving EBM/breast and no formula.

I am with Mears
I did express at work and it was quite quick so it wasn't an issue.
Any BM is always good.... and it is less faff usually.

Personally I barely have time for a cup of coffee let alone expressing!

I have been mixed feeding since before I went back to work for ds. Did the same for dd when she was small. Worked fine for me and both of them don't really fall foul of colds etc, so they must have got some antibodies etc.

Do what is best for you and the baby. DON'T feel guilty if it is too much faff to express. I must say I disagree about expressing being easier as it takes just a few minutes to make up a bottle of formula but much longer to sterilize and pump IMO.

I have bf both of mine, but with dd1 was made to feel guilty about wanting to give her some formula by hv. Made me almost think it was like a poison. That sort of attitude is not helpful. Have bf and formula fed ds from 6 weeks and this has suited us much better. Am a big fan of this compromise!

Kbaby - how old is your baby?

Past 6 months you do not need to sterilise BTW.

kbaby, I went back to work FT when dd was only 6 months old - I was still bfing her then. I expressed at work but it took such a long time - time I felt was better spent preparing for the next day or sorting something out so I could leave 'on time' that after a few weeks I stopped. I fed dd just before I dropped her off in the morning, and as soon as I picked her up ( often in the car on the side of the road!) She wouldn't touch the bottles that were left for her during the day - this seemed to work for us. I'd then feed her again before bedtime.
