I've been giving my 7 week old baby almost exclusively formula since last week. To make life easier, I purchased a kettle from Amazon that was marketed for formula making. It boils the water first, and then cools it to 70 degrees where it can then be held at that temperature. This means when he goes for a nap, I can boil the kettle and set it to cool ready for when he wakes up and wants his next bottle.
I mentioned this to my health visitor today and she said this wasn't suitable and that water must have been boiled within the last 30 minutes, even if held at the 70 degrees 'ideal temperature'.
Can anyone tell if this is true and if so why? I can't see how it's any different to keeping boiling water in a flask for making formula when out the house? I'm trying to follow the guidelines as close as possible but how can I leave my baby crying hungry for 30 minutes whilst the water cools to 70 degrees each time?
