Poo a bit green from BF baby - why?!

DD is 13 days old and her nappies have been the textbook mustardy stuff as MW describd to me. However the past few have had traces of green through them - should we be worried? Can't find it in any books!

I'm a bit out of touch with all this stuff now, my two dds are 8 and 6 now. If I remember it might be to do with baby getting lots of foremilk but not enough hindmilk?

Sparkler · 22/12/2007 17:43

Please don't quote me on that though - hopefully someone will come along to confirm for sure.

glaskham · 22/12/2007 17:44

does it look like a bright green colour or a grassy green colour? or even a yellowy green?....i'm sure it was the norm with both my two....poo comes in all strange colours, if your dd is constantly crying, crying before a poo, or a short while after a feed then i'd be worried...if not sounds pretty normal to me TBH.

don't worry
don;t know why
but it does go green sometimes

ShowOfHands · 22/12/2007 17:46

It happens occasionally. My bf dd has a completely green nappy if she hasn't fed frequently enough but sometimes there are just specks of green, cabbagey stuff in there. I think it's normal for it to happen occasionally, not normal all the time. Get used to seeing some odd things in that nappy.

Nothing whatsoever to worry about.

Things to try if it persists ...

Feed for longer on each breast so baby can get the hind milk which comes after the thinner drinky bit and make sure you get plenty of rest.

Even if you do all this there still maybe green from time to time and it's absolutely fine.

I rememebr panicing about this with ds - nothing serious unless it is persistant and noxious iirc.

Caz10 · 23/12/2007 14:21

Thank you! So far it is neither persistant nor noxious - just wee traces of green in amongst the "mustard" and not in every nappy.

Panic no.4578 averted...
