how old is your baby?

why do you want to?

How old is your child? Generally I would think the 11pm feed is the best to start with.
It's entirely up to you which milk you choose, there are plenty to choose from.

DS 3.5 months .. starting to get sore gums and more hungry as waking up in the night again for 1 or 2 feeds. DS was sleeping through ..

Thought it maybe a good time to change though i love bf but also feel my milk is less as cant express loads at a time anymore ..

I looked in mothercare today and i wondered what stage i would have to get ?

And which is best ... If i did go ahead ..

no you don't have less milk, your supply matches to your ds need.

but as he grows will need more milk and sometimes will need to feed more to make more. night is the time when that happens most. doesn't last long, don't worry about sleeping through for a while yet.

Shell, if this is something you want to do, then my advice is buy the formula milk that's most readily available to you, because fundamentally they're all the same. Buy the one you can get at 3am from your local corner shop, and see how you get on with it

It does sound a bit as if you're not keen, though? Your ds could well just be going through a growth spurt, hence extra feeding for a short while. Night feeidng will increase your milk supply even more than day feeding, anyway. Don't forget that the amount you can express is going to be a lot less than he will get by feeding direct from you. Your milk supply will be settling down so your breast won't feel as full etc - if breastfeeding has been going ok so far there's no reason to think you don't have a good enough supply at this stage.

Yeah im happy with feeding him just was expressing 3 oz in 15 minutes and now last time i tried it was 1.5 oz for 30 minutes ..

I just like the idea of natural milk and formula doesn seem right at the moment but i will stick at it i think and try get my expressing into a routine.

Just want to build up a supply in the freezer and its going slowly ..

Are you going back to work then, shell?

WHat snaf says is spot on.

Often expressing is no reflection on how much a baby can suckle.

4 months is notorious for growth spurts. Give it a couple of weeks and see how it goes.

Most readily available formula is usually the best bet, if you do decide to introduce formula.
