Stopping b'feeding at 9months, what if baby doesn't

drink any other milk.

She starts off on the cup ok, but just has 3 or four mouthfuls and thats it.

She eats loads of food. Should I carry on breastfeeding to be sure she has some milk.

Granny looks after her in the day and I don't want to hassle her with having to put milk in all the food and all that.

Baby doesn't seem bothered at no milk, doesn't seem to miss boob.

Didn't b'feed this morning (only doing morn and eve anyway) and dd didn't mind, but drank no formula instead.

What should I do?

i remember, flum, being told to make sure they get 1 pint milk a day but dd never did that, ever. i think they need toget calcium etc but they can get that from cheese, yohghurts etc. is it the nutrients of the milk you are worried about or the actual fluids she drinks?

She drinks water through the day so not worried about that.

Just worried about going against health advice that they need milk. She is so healthy and happy - really thrived on b'feeding so don't want her to suffer even a teeeeeeeeeeeeeny weeeeeeeeny bit. Spose we all think like that don't we.

And with the winter drawing in, cold weather, energy needed for crawling and destroying house - blah blah blah..........

i stopped b/f at 6 months and remember being worried about the same thing. hv told me to make sure she drank 1 pint a day. but how did i know how much b/m she had drunk before i stopped? i was really worried but made sure she drank water, for the fluids and dairy products for the nutrients, and she was absolutely perfectly fine. eventually she did take some formula and when i started her on cows milk at 12 months she loved it and now drinks lots of that. shes 2 now. please dont worry. petit filou was my saving grace! lots of luck xxx

there have been a number of other threads about this recently - the concensus is they get enough calcium from veggies, fruit and bread, and enough fluid from drinking water.

My DS1 is the same and now at 3 is just beginning to drink a bit more milk on some days.

Right thank you, thats enough for me. I will stop then.

Will miss it though..... so cosy,

oh well can't do it for ever.

Having said that - I carriedo n feeding DS1 a couple of times a day until he was 12 months (evening and morning) - it was just easier !
