I am going out (yippee) on Friday - have never left dd2 properly in the evening before. She will settle happily for dh with her dummy but I need to leave some ebm and need guidance as to how much. She takes a bottle of ebm occasionally (I deliberately give her the occasional one so she is used to it, but usually only a "snack" amount - 2oz or so.)

She feeds around 6pm-7pm so I will b/f her then. She then has a dreamfeed around 10-11pm, when I will be out, I have no idea how much she takes then (usually one breast only though for 10 minutes). I'm thinking to try and express 6oz if I can manage it, hoping that will be plenty for the dream feed. I should be back home by midnight and she usually looks for another feed around 2am.

2nd question. I know there was a thread about breast milk storage bags the other day. I went to buy some but couldn't bring myself to pay nearly £8. I have started to use my old "weaning" pots - they are suitable for sterilising and freezing - just checking there is no reason I shouldn't do this?

Thanks in advance.

how old is your DD? at 14/15 weeks - DS takes between 6 - 7fl.oz of EBM for his dreamfeed, so I think 6 will be more than enough.

no idea on the storage pots - I use the lansinoh bags. I know they are expensive but are very handy. plan to use them for storing pasta sauces etc if i dont use them all up.

Pots with lids that you can sterilise are fine.
6oz ought to be plenty.

I would try to have two lots of milk on hand for her - maybe 2 lots of 3oz?

As for storage, when I was in this game, I used disposable bottle liners (made by Playtex, but there was another brand available too). They were so much cheaper than breastmilk storage bags. I think it was about £2 for 50, and they came on a long roll. They were fine in the freezer too.

Sterilized pots with lids are fine.

Quantity can vary alot between babies. If you're unsure why not give her EBM the night before as a practice so that you can go out confident that everything will be fine.

good luck

AMerryScot - good idea re having 2 smaller amounts. I'll suggest dh keeps the 2nd lot chilled, then if she doesn't want it at night we can save it for another time.

Thanks for all the replies. She is 4 mths old btw.
