shut UP.

i think what i used to do was just wash [or sook, if out ] off the sauce if there was some, as it was more likely to be salty (obv not necessary if i'd made myself). the recommendation is to cut a big piece, the size of the baby's fist. they gum it to death, it's revolting.

hi wulfricsmum, i'm curious to know, was your ds always fussy or did it just start at some point? i've never heard of a fussy BLW baby but i suppose there must by definition be some. (i have deffo heard of some who didn't take to it quickly though). i get 70,000 hits on that website a month, i'd have thought i'd have heard of a few fussy kids by now.

PrisonerCellBlockAitch · 17/12/2007 23:20

herbs? god yes
mustard? in a sauce do you mean? yes if so, but i'd maybe not give the child a particularly sauced piece. on a sarnie, no.
garlic? god yes
curry? dd really really likes curry, always has. but i prefer aromatics to heat so maybe it's that. lots of cumin, cardamom, cloves etc.
pine nuts? yes. esp in pesto. some people avoid cos of allergies but i can't remember why, it's not cos they're nuts per se.

tastychristmaspud · 17/12/2007 23:23

mmm thanks for that tip cutting the meat the size of dd's fist i will do that

what do you think about me giving dd
herbs?
mustard?
garlic?
curry?
pine nuts?

Aitch, what's your website?
I want to do BLW with my next one, tbh a lot of the things I've seen on MN since I joined are things I did anyway, but didn't know they were things iyswim. But I'm interested to read up on it properly.

tastychristmaspud · 17/12/2007 23:28

would i just be able to go sraight to giving dd some of our meals? or would it be best to give seperate things first [ potatoes one day then sauasages another]
like tomorrow we are having bangers and mash, would i be able to give that? shen dd is 6 months next week i mean

blimey Aitch, I know I'm still only a few months into my MN experience but I ought to have picked up you are a (no, THE?) BLW guru.

Am a BLW virgin and keen to try since neither DS1 or 2 could ever cope with lumps and puree together so figured this time round I'd just go straight for the lumps! - could I have link to your site please

5goldrings4MONKEYBIRDs · 17/12/2007 23:29

oooh VS you copycat

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 17/12/2007 23:29

one of my favourite ever blw photos perhaps the MNer whose GLORIOUS child that is will identify herself?

seriously, that was the first thing poppy every ate, isn't that cool? as for me, dd pinched a peach while i was eating it a few days before 6 months and we were off. it's all geekily lovingly detailed on the blog. as you can see we weren't as brave as poppy's mum, i couldn't QUITE believe that she was capable as there was no info on BLW to be had online like there is now, so we gave her bits of carrot, potato, cucumber, broccoli etc. table scraps, yes, we didn't really cook specially for her just gave her our veg and bits of bread crust.

mind you, that stage only lasted a couple of weeks as it was so apparent that she was ready to go.
so yes to the mash, stick it on the highchair tray and see what happens. it depends on the sausage front, because they've got so many more taste buds than us some babies find sausages a bit peppery. but the good thing is, you'll find out if she doesn't like them because she won't eat them. if you'd blended it up with carrots or somthing she might have felt the same but laid the blame at the foot of all orange mush from then on. at least that's the theory.

thing is, the way i look at it, if you try BLW and in the end just aren't comfortable with it, you just crack open the spoons anyway so nothing's lost.

PrisonerCellBlockAitch · 17/12/2007 23:53

oh and VS, i'm absolutely SURE that you did 'blw' before anyway, it's pretty obvious to let your kid do what your kid can do and not hold them back, but i think that a lot of people (naming no names) have sought to imply that feeding your child is a lot more difficult than that (in order to sell things to us).

5goldrings4MONKEYBIRDs · 18/12/2007 00:03

no honest VS, you must think I'm someone else but I don't even know who camilla is...

Twinklemegan · 18/12/2007 00:05

Camilla used to be Lulumama. Does that help?

PrisonerCellBlockAitch · 18/12/2007 00:21

shut UP with the overfamiliar. i didn't realise you and VS were newbies, you've fitted in very quickly.

S1ur · 18/12/2007 00:31

Ha I just referenced you aitch....
here

New blwers here methinks

S1ur · 18/12/2007 00:33

two threads and one aitch...

what is a woman to do eh?

turkEgyptlets · 18/12/2007 07:25

oh my life - re the spag pic! did she just get carried straight to the bath i wonder?! and where's the bib? actually that's the annoying part - dd gets regularly carried straight to the bath, which is empty, and i can't really put her down on the floor cos it'll get bits all over it.......and then ants appear overnight, and she drips all the way up the stairs.......she slips and slides in the bath whilst it's filling, and her nappy, which is still on, cos i can't undress her until i put her down, gets filled with water..............and on and on and on......
how DO you cope with the mess?!!

please???

LadySnowsAlot · 18/12/2007 08:28

tasty, ds gums and sucks the toast. he had some tost this morning and about an hour after we had come to the front room, a little bi popped out his mouth! think he may be storing it like a hamster. he just enjoys the texture and the fact he can join in with our meals.

he has some mush as i'm exhausted from the amount of bfing at this age. i want to fill him up a bit on food. saying that, he still feeds about vevery hour during the day atm

be brave! it's amazing to see them eat with no teeth.

Rudolphthehazeyjanedeer · 18/12/2007 08:53

Have just stumbled across this thread and your blog Aitch. Did the whole purees thing with dd1 (21 months), but dd2(7 months) seems to be moving straight on to bits of what we eat (can't imagine ever having the time to make tons of puree like I used to!), and am now reading what I can find about blw. We have only got a highchair without a tray (a babydan), and can't afford a new one (dd1 just moved into a booster seat, so dd2 can have her old one), do you think we'll manage without a tray, or is it just going to be like an explosion in a spaghetti factory over the whole kitchen?
