DD lead weaning from breast

dd is now 24 weeks and was being bf. I returned to work 4 weeks ago and continued to express while at work and feed at home. However, over the past week DD has started to refuse feeds off me. She acts not interested and turns away. As soon as I give her a bottle she drinks it all.
I supose my question is can a baby decide to wean themselves. I feel quite sad at the thought of stopping and would like to continue, but I know dd needs milk. Do I continue to try at each feed or just accept defeat?

I don't think a baby this young actually weans herself. It's probably due to the fact that she got used to drinking from the bottle and finds it more difficult now to drink from the breast. I think if you really want to continue then you should try and contact a breastfeeding counsellor. They might be able to help you.

kbaby, not sure if this helps, but ds also refused feeds shortly after I returned to work. He was 7 mos. I saw it as notice to quit, so I did!
Felt a bit sad about it but hey, they keep you so busy you don't have much time to look back.

Not sure if this will help - I've found this site useful in the past: self-weaning

I know DS went through a stage where he'd not feed unless it was quite quiet - I tried to feed him at a mum and baby group when he should've been starving (not fed for four hours), but he wasn't interested - he wanted to see what was going on! He's 32 weeks now and getting better, but can still be distracted - had to feed him in the back of the car earlier and he was more interested in exploring the texture of the front seat!

Thanks for that link.

Ive stopped the 6pm feed and im giving a bottle at that time however im still bfeeding at 11 pm and through the night until 7am. The rest of the time she is having formula. I was going to stop expressing in the day at 26 weeks anyway as I am finding it a struggle in work to find the time to express. So in a way I suppose ive just stopped 2 weeks earlier than planned and the 6pm feed.
Is some breastmilk better than none?
