Helo I think I'm going into hospital and I have a breastfed baby to leave at home.

Just waiting for call back to see what's happening.

I have 10 month old breastfed and solids baby. Never had a bottle. Wakes 4 times a night to feed.

Husband and baby and three year old will be staying at home.

I've got some frozen milk and a couple of bottles which she's always previously refused.

Could he night wean her whilst I'm gone?
How should he do it?

He better be prepared for a long night x

You might find she’s fine though - my ex MIL took my baby for a couple of days in similar circs and the baby took the bottle for her no bother

Marvellousmadness · 20/11/2021 13:23

He'll just have to manage won't he. At 10 months some of the night feeds might just be comfort feeds. So he might just be able to rock baby back to sleep. And who knows baby might just take a bottle on this occasion:)
Hope you're ok.

I would get advice from an infant feeding consultant or call the NCT breastfeeding helpline. I can think of a a few ideas but it depends on how long you'll be away, if your husband can come to collect expressed milk, if you're well enough to express, if your little one will take a cup rather than a bottle without you there as an option, if you want to continue breastfeeding when you get home etc.

pompomsgalore · 20/11/2021 13:26

I definitely want to continue breastfeeding when I come home but 4 times a night is ridiculous.

She's massive and loves her solids so she's got great reserves.

Do you think try a bottle at bed time and then after that water in a zippy cup during the night?

Yes and I recommend doidy or kiddly cups for bottle refusers. I could be wrong hence suggesting you get professional advice, but possibly one or more wake ups are for comfort in the night. So this could be a great opportunity to wean down to giving milk for hunger.

If she's a bottle refuser, definitely try a cup instead.

She might sleep once she realises you're not there for the feeds at night.

Hope you feel better soon Thanks

I night weaned both mine around 10 months and they were ok. My husband got up to them with a cup of water. They soon got it and stopped waking.
It was easier than we expected both times. After that they just fed morning and bedtime.
I hope it goes ok for you @pompomsgalore and I hope that you feel better soon 💐
