what the hell!

ok so he took bottle expressed milk from 5wks age- once a day. otherwise breastfed.
has a dummy - now just for sleepy time.

always used NUK- mostly latex.

out of the blue screams blue murder if i bring it near him or even try to get it ito his gob!

managed briefly with a silicone teat..but now 3 dys in a row of meltdown refusal...

back to work in 8wks...i am sure i am tense with expectation at feeds. Hubby has already lost confidence in the bottle feeding- he tried again today with no luck

it seems that this happens around the 3/4 mth age???? or is it just us!

any comments or hints or similar experiences (with a happy ending) appreciated.

He will drink it keep trying, don't give up and don't let him feel the stress.

My story(I'm a nanny) started with a three month old boy who had taken a bottle from birth to six weeks and then not again. First we changed bottles a few times with no success, then the mother would go to work for a few hours at a time and still no improvement. Then I made my plan stick with one bottle(NUK), make sure EBM was quite warm, sit him in his boucy chair facing away from me(eventually I did hold him but not to tight), then I would rub bottle around mouth, if he started to get upset then I'd stop and try again after a few minutes continue doing this until he took it, if he got to upset or hadn't drunk after an hour I would wait until next feed(2 - 4 hours later). It took six weeks of this until he took bottle consistenly!!!! It sounds awlful but I can honestly say he was the happiest baby during the day as long as I didn't force the bottle. It did mean he BF more at night but that worked fine and before I left at six months he started sleeping 7pm - 7am.

Good luck and don't give up

thanks nannnz
will keep trying- noted your tip on not trying too much once he says not interested ( ie avoid the meltdown)
