Foremilk - hindmilk issue?

Hello!

My newborn (first baby) is 2 weeks old and has been doing really well - gaining weight, feeding well, plenty of nappies etc - but in the last two days her dirty nappies have changed from the normal 'mustard yellow' colour, to green and she seems to be gassy / irritated after every feed.

Having gone down a google rabbit hole, it looks like it might be this whole breast milk oversupply / foremilk - hind milk imbalance. I do feel like I'm producing more milk than she needs, and am trying various different things - hand expressing a bit before feeds, keeping her just on one breast etc... but there's no change. Would be so helpful to know if anyone has any thoughts? Are green stools a real cause for concern if there are no other obvious issues (ie she's feeding well, no temp etc).

Thanks so much!

They do all sorts of weird things at this age and grow out of it. Unless you think she's unwell then I wouldn't worry. You could always ask your HV just for reassurance.

It might be something you have eaten. If i eat dairy, as an example, my little one gets an upset tummy and has done from the get go. Babies can quite often be dairy (or lactose?!) intolerant I believe. Maybe keep a food diary and see if it changes when you eat a certain food if you feel concerned xx

Some babies have cows’ milk intolerance but very few are lactose intolerant. Less fat slows GI transit and can equal green poo but green is normal sometimes and if causing no problems is not an issue. How much weight gain? If much above birth weight and very full boobs then mainly using one side per feed usually resolves things but in time.
