Does Illness effect milk?

My bf dd (8 months) was taken into hospital last week with Bronchilits and a mystery secondary infection. Thankfully she improved so much we were sent home after one night. She didn't sleep well the night we came home but she did for the next few nights. I then caught the mystery infection which made me want to stop eating, gave me a high temperature and feel terrible. Then I caught the sickness and diarrhea bug thats going round my town, thankfully I wasn't too explosive as I hadn't eaten for 3 days.

So it's now been almost a week since I ate properly. I have been trying to eat but it's not very easy.

My dd has been waking up regularly through the night and wanting to feed since the second day I was ill. I have tried to encourage her to go back to sleep without feeding to get her out of a pattern. I've even tried shorter feeds and the dreaded controlled crying. She is feeding normally during the day and is eating 3 solid meals.

Is my eating having an effect on my milk? Or is she just in a bad pattern from being ill herself?

I know I have plenty of milk as she's feeding so much they've started leaking again.

I hope one of you may know an answer to this. Being up all night is making my illness drag on.

She's drinking more milk then usual to replace the reserves she's lost through illness. That's normal - a very good sign actually.

I remember being very ill with gastroenteritis - even though I was dehydrated, I still had milk - to my own (temporary) detriment.

Your body will always put your baby first.

Thanks Jingle. That actually seems quite obvious now you've said it, DD lost weight when she was ill.

Uh, I hope this doesn't last long, she just had a 40 minute feed.
