I have been nursing my ds for 8 wks now and almost since day dot i have had an incredibly sweet tooth chocolate especially. please tell me this will pass as it is unusual for me and i worry about diabetes etc not to mention weight. i was very lucky to get my figure back soon after the birth and\would hate gain weight because of my choc habit. anyone else ? and will it go back to a normal run of the mill love of chocolate as opposed to a 3 bar a day thing, when i stop feeding him?

I think it's a breastfeeding thing (she says stuffing her face full of chocolate and thinking she should really be getting lunch sorted ).

I'm still feeding my 8 month old DD and consuming loads of cakes, bisuits, chocolate, hot chocolate. I think it's probably related to tiredness too in the early days and it's easier (and nicer) to eat a chocolate biscuit than make a piece of toast, wash fruit, etc.

If it's any help it doesn't show on me either so the weight gain sounds unlikely. I did stop guzzling once I stopped feeding DS at 13 months.

Enjoy!

you are probably having a sugar rush resulting from the breastfeeding. A friend has this (her baby is 4 months) - she says she is constantly scoffing snickers and getting very fat. She says she was getting very dizzy if she didn't eat.

She is trying to replace the snickers with carbs that fill you up for longer and even out the blood sugar - so things like bread, cereal, flapjack.
Just try and make sure you are eating good food regularly - don't skip meals, and have snacks between meals if you need to.

I was ravenous for the first couple of months but it did calm down after that.

I was scarily ravenous when bfing my babies. But it didn't seem to matter what I ate - I never put on any weight (smile) (didn't lose any either ). The ravenousness eased off after a few months, but I didn't start to lose weight until I was well into weaning off the boob (ie not the starting solids weaning).

I have it on best authority - ie several other bfing mothers - that chocolate milk shake is very good for babies, as long as the chocolate is the best quality. To be serious though, chocolate does have lots of good things going for it, so if you want chocolate then go ahead and eat as much as you want, but make sure it's the good stuff - lots of cocoa solids and minimal 'vegetabel fat'.

I'm still eating 3-4 chocolate bars a day and I've been feeding bean for 5 months now. I never really ate much sweet stuff before so I think it must be the bfing.

I wouldn't worry too much about putting on weight though. I've lost all my pregnancy weight plus a bit more and haven't put any back on. I do try to eat sensibly apart from the chocolate, 3 meals a day and loads of fruit and veges, that probably helps.
