Just thought this might be an encouragement to others who b/f when out and about.
Dh and I went on our annual Christmas Shopping Day today in Solihull, accompanied by mini Lolly. We stopped for coffee and cakes. At a nearby table there were 3 older ladies who enjoyed cooing over her and making her smile.
I had already made my "visual assessment" to see if there may be any customers staring disapprovingly etc. Not that that would stop me feeding; I just like to be prepared with a suitable response if needed (it never has been in my case.) Incidentally it was at this very cafe some months back that a b/f mother ran into difficulties; I can't remember the exact details but iirc a member of staff was unhappy about her b/f and took this up with her.
I got on with feeding the lo and a few minutes later one of the ladies came up with a big smile and said she just wanted to say how nice it was to see a baby being fed in a restaurant. She went on to say she had fed all 4 of her babies (in the 1940s and 50s) and used to get a lot of stares and comments. She said once or twice she wanted to shout at these rude people and say something like "do you want me to get the other one out if you're so interested in the milk!?"
She said today that if any of her friends make disapproving comments when they see a mother feeding she tells them off for being prudish as it is the most natural thing in the world. Her 2 companions this morning had disappeared whilst she had this conversation with us.
Such a lovely woman -if she is someone's granny on here give her a big hug from me
