Will a pump a day result in oversupply

Hi all, my daughter is 3 weeks old and exclusively breast fed. We have a very good routine where she feeds 3 hourly in the day and 4 hojrly at night (so two wake-ups). I'm pretty happy with it however I have a postpartum infection and had to go to a+e which took over 3 hours and I was so stressed about her feeding and didn't want to take newborn into hospital. I am following the principles of the book 7amto 7pm where it recommends to pump for 15 minutes after the morning feed. I have very large breasts and already finding the nights uncomfortable so I was wondering will one pump a day result in an oversupply. I don't want this but equally as I'm still receiving treatment and attending appointments I want some backup milk. Any advice or experience would be appreciated.

Pumping can result in oversupply if you do it regularly. Have you tried collecting drip milk from the opposite breast when you feed just using a Hakaa pump? That can quickly give you freezer stash without pumping as such. X

I pump once a day sometimes twice and no over supply at all.

Any breastfeeding questions I have I phone the free NCT breastfeeding helpline for advice. They're brilliant.

There's also Kelly Mom website. Just Google the question and Kelly Mom and they are bound to know!

Thanks so much for replying @everdaymumma I haven't used a haka as I don't seem to leak so didn't think it would work.
Thanks @Flittingaboutagain it's so helpful to hear other experiences. Also I will look up kellymom. Really appreciate your.recommendation.

I pumped a lot to make a stash before returning to work FT and never had a oversupply problem.

However, I did have to wait an hour after the morning feed to get a properly good amount pumped.

Pumping from other breast while feeding is a good tactic as well. It can help keep your breasts even sized as often baby will prefer one breast to another and that can make the preferred breast a cup size or two larger than the other one.

Get a Hakka and put it on one side while feeding at this stage you should be able to collect plenty to have a stash. It won’t work so well once supply regulates.

Another vote for the Hakaa, we’ve used it from about 5 days old on advice from MW and it’s resulted in a brilliant freezer stash and no oversupply issues at 17 weeks now.

I don't think one pump will make a difference especially if you keep doing it but a haaka could be good. It doesn't just catch leaks, it draws out milk through suction.

Hi everyone thanks so much. I will definitely give the haaka a go.
So far for the last 4 days I've pumped for 10 mins per side after a morning feed. I've managed to get about 60mls per day which although not lots will hopefully build up and so far no supply issues. I'll try the haaka too and pop it on the side I'm not feeding on. Thanks for your help!
