I have an awful rash looks like hives all over my legs and its spreading its driving me mad at night. I have a drs appointment Monday evening but don't think i can take one more night of itching.

Oh and my babies 3 weeks old if that makes any difference.

Please advise as i've googled and looked at past threads and advice conflicts.

Thankyou Does it make you drowsy? as DS still wakes up every 2 hours for feed and i don't want to fall asleep whilst feeding.

I have read that it should not be used when bf as it can make baby drowsy and they might potentially miss feeds. Will be back in a min with a link.

I took piriton throughout my pregnancies and bf to control my allergies. Hospital allergic clinic said it was fine to do so.

Different in pregnancy though CarGirl in relation to the baby sleeping too much and missing feeds.

Berrybliss - you need to look at the Breastfeeding network's website under drugline, but their site doesn't seem to be working at the moment. I seem to remember that Zirtec is one that is OK, even though it's not licensed for breastfeeding. It is likely that your GP will not prescribe you anything that isn't licenced for breastfeeding and you might be better off buying over the counter, although you will have to forget to mention that you are breastfeeding. Please check about the Zirtec though rather than just believing some random woman off the internet

I took piriton once and ds passed out for much longer than his usual naptime - I can't remember how long now. BUT he was almost a year old at the time, so way bigger than a three week old, and as he was well establised on solids, there really wasn't an issue with regards to missing a feed.

HTH

obviously my dds have my genes piriton does not make me drowsy and my babies absolutely thrived despite all the piriton taking thoughout their lives!

mawbroon · 02/12/2007 22:08

Wow, you are lucky cargirl. If I take piriton, it knocks me for six! Hate the stuff

CarGirl · 02/12/2007 22:14

Lucky I am not - I am an insomniac when pregnant or the teeniest bit stressed/uspet etc. I've had to have sleeping tablets before now - the pharmacist gave me a grilling about taking them both ie why did I need them if I was on piriton!!! I used to take Triludan (an ancient anti histamine) as a child and that didn't affect me either.
