First of all you need to buy the right brand, they shoudn't have wheat flour added, they should only have oats, water and some kind of oil or fat. 'Nairn's' are great. Eat them with honey, cheese, paté, hoummous...enjoy

Wrapped around a slice of crispy bacon
or spread with chocolate spread.

Don't forget they have to be HOT, don't attempt to eat them cold, and for best results, fry in a dab of butter.

Nairn's do some lovely flavoured oatcakes, but you might not be able to get them outside Scotland. But yes, they're great with cheese and pate.

Flapjacks are a total piece of piss and will take you minutes to make - if you want a recipe I've got a good one.

coldtits · 02/12/2007 21:05

Oh you mean scottish ones?

I thought you meant Stokie Oakies!

robinredbreast · 02/12/2007 21:05

Hi oatcakes are great with cheese esp strong gooey ones...Gone dairy free so having cravings.

When looking into dairy free products found oatmilk may be another way to get those oats into your diet! No idea how much is in it tho. I found it in the UHT milk section at supermarket with the dairy free alternatives.

Try v finely ground oats sprinkled onto other cereals or as a thickener.

Didnt know about the oats=more milk. Will go for the oatmilk in future!

ah but, robinredbreast, stoke oatcakes are like pancakes, which are big and floppy and you make as a wrap. are you talking about biscuits?

turkEgyptlets · 03/12/2007 04:11

They are nice with smoked salmon pate/spread on them with watercress. Very healthy too.
