Aptamil Easy Digest and Carobel for Reflux

My 3 month old baby has been struggling with feeding from birth but it has become worse in the last 3 weeks. He screams after a few sips and a 4 oz feed can take over an hour ... have seen several GPs, HVs and a feeding advisor at the hospital. All have their own opinion but have got no nearer to solving the problem! Have switched to Aptamil Easy Digest which has made things a bit easier. Have read that Carobel might help ... does anyone know if I can mix this with Aptamil ED? Any advice appeciated!

I'm no expert, but my dd had really bad reflux. The breakthrough for us was when my HV wondered if the reflux might be caused by an inability to digest lactose, even though dd was gaining weight normally. She got dd a prescription for Nutramigen hypoallergenic formula: within 24 hours the reflux stopped, and we've had the formula on prescription every since.

You can buy nutramigen over the counter, but it is pricey at £12.50 for a 400g tin, and small chemists don't usually carry it as stock.

Carobel gave my baby dioarreah(sp?)Can't someone prescribe Infant Gaviscon...I think you can even buy it over the counter

infant gaviscon is available over the counter its probably worth you trying it. you might need a bigger teat in your bottles as well so best to get one in anticipation. this saves having a hungry baby sucking but getting to little due to flow issues.

Also my dd was like this for the first three months of her life, which entailed lots of trips to A&E.

She was a bad daytime napper, and eventually we realised that this was what was causing the problem. Too tired to suck, she would just take enough to take the edge off her hunger.

She of course always performed perfectly at A&E .

Ds was similar, refusing to feed and screamong all the time. Then, the advice was to wean at 4 months, which I did. However he continued to dislike milk foe about the first 3 years of his life.

It is very stressful isn't it? Is your baby gaining weight? Would also recommend bigger hole in teat, the fast flow ones, from 6 months. Also aren't easy digest milks thicker and need a bigger teat?

Is it silent reflux?
