Keeping EBM once it has been in a bottle

I just gave a feed of EBM and my DS didn't finish it. I had been keeping it in the fridge from the other day and warmed it slightly by putting the bottle in hot water. Can I use it again for the next feed or do I need to chuck it out?

You need to chuck it unfortunately.

Stefka · 29/11/2007 21:36

Gutting. I didn't realise EBM would go off so quickly.

how long can ebm stay out the fridge btw? I have to take bottles of Ebm out with me for callum's tubefeds and I'm not sure how long I can keep them?

I'm pretty sure that you can re-heat it once. I'll try to find the info for yoou.

Stefka · 29/11/2007 21:40

It wasn't frozen or anything, just in the fridge. I was wondering how long they can stay out of the fridge to - if you were going somewhere for example.

DaisyNightingale · 29/11/2007 21:45

I hope callum is doing well SGK...I've been following your threads.

sparklygothkat · 29/11/2007 21:49

he is doing ok. he is being weighed tomorrow and i hope he has put on weight.. or at least 6oz..

mmelody · 30/11/2007 10:15

I dont think it actually goes off in that short time stefka.. its about the bacteria/heating/reheating thing... same as any other food product, once its been heated you shouldnt reheat.

Stefka · 30/11/2007 10:44

Oh I see - I wasn't going to reheat it as I knew he would start asking for another feed in about an hour - he always feeds a lot at night. It didn't matter anyway as he totally refused to take the bottle and I had to breast feed him. Worked out this morning that there was something wrong with the bottle and he couldn't get the milk out. So gutted that I had to waste that milk as I don't have a good back up supply right now. Ah well - such is life!
