Mould in steriliser - washing it out?

We switched from a microwave steriliser to a cold water one two weeks ago (DS is 3 weeks).

Unfortunately DH somehow put the microwave steriliser in the cupboard with water still in it. We got it out today with the intention of using it... to find there were some bits of black mould floating in the water. DH went and put the steriliser in the dishwasher (with an array of other baby bottles and nipple shields and dummies etc) but I'm panicking about 1) whether this is enough to get rid of the mould and be able to reuse it, or should we throw it away and 2) whether this has now rendered the baby bottles, shields and dummies it went into the dishwasher alongside as dangerous and needing to be chucked?!

DH seems to routinely think that if he would still eat/ drink from / use something it's also fine and safe for a newborn...

Maybe soak everything in some Milton and then rewash them and should be OK to use

Thanks - do dishwashers kill mold, though? Concerned about the other baby things that were in the dishwasher, or that I might put in there in future!

Still confused about this if anyone has any advice - in general do people wash out and reuse baby stuff with mould on it or do they just chuck?! And still have no idea if the dishwasher will have killed any mould! Wish they would teach these kinds of things at school Confused

Personally I would throw it out but I tend to be on the cautious side.

Would you also throw out the dummies and bottles that had been through the dishwasher with it, or just the steriliser? I can't work out what the rationale way forward is and my solution at the moment is to keep putting the dishwasher on again and again to put off the decision Sad

No need to throw it away. A good wash with hot soapy water and then sterilising with milton is enough to kill any mould spores that may be lurking on any of your baby equipment.

And if you're worried about the dishwasher, run a dishwasher cleaner through it on a hot cycle and that will clear anything out

If the dishwasher has changed it just run the steriliser empty once. Empty it out and use it to sterilise the things that were in the dishwasher? Sterilising things is it's job, no need to throw anything out.
