Feeding

My daughter is five months old and the bottle feeding was going well until just over a month ago.
She was taking up to 7 floz per feed (five feeds per day which equals circa 35 floz per day) and then she caught a cold and a cough and her feed intake dropped. So a month later she is still only drinking between 3 and 6 floz per feed (five feeds per day which equals circa 20 floz)!! She never cries for food and is more interested in having the bib and her fingers in her mouth! Wondering if anyone can help me shed any light on this and also get her milk intake up, as surely she will need to be weaned at six months.

Hi babysbreath

If dd is still gaining weight or not losing weight I wouldn't worry too much. Her growth may just be slowing down a little. If she never cries for food then she is obviously taking the amount she needs. Alternatively, there could be some laziness if she is not on fast 3 hole teats so she gets bored of drinking it? Perhaps look at that if she isn't on those faster flow teats, it helped my dd.

Hi, sometimes you find that they are hungrier some days than others! My dd is nine months now but at 4 months was taking 4-6oz depending. I weaned her at 5 months and her milk intake went up!! I would not worry about it too much as if she was hungry she would let you know! You may find that once you start weaning her that her intake may go up!

Thanks for your replies.
It just seems each feed is a battle.
I feel that if I didn't prompt her she wouldn't let me know that she is ready for her milk.
I have to usually wake her for a milk feed as well!
Also, when I'm feeding her she seems to go off in a little day dream.
I'm probably a fretful mother!
