Hormone changes after giving up breast feeding - what to expect?

Ds is now 8 months and I have just got him onto formula and my milk is gradually drying up. I know there are changes in hormones at this time, what can I expect as everything settles down. I have heard horror stories about violent mood swings among other things and I would just like to be aware of what might happen.

You know, I think I might be going through this now. Given up last week, and on the Sunday spent all day having a huge stand up row with my mum. Makes me all nostalgic - haven't done that sine Dd was 6 weeks old. But it happened all the time from 0-6wks so perhaps it was post baby/start of bf hormones? Scaling new heights though. i had to eat humble pie at breakfast regarding throwing half a dozen books at my dad. ahem he spoke too loudly while I was getting Dd to sleep. skulk off to padded cell

About the weight loss thing, your body needs to retain a certain amount of brown fat cells to breastfeed successfully. The weight I had gained during pregnancy stayed on while I breastfed for 7 months. Then when I stopped bf'ing the extra weight literally dropped off me.

Hi, it's good to read everyone's stories. I stopped BF my 11month dd last week. ive had the biggest period ever on the back of that. Been quite emotional with mood swings and crying. I'm trying to wait it out and feel back to normal soon but it's really effecting my energy levels, just didn't feel like leaving the house on Monday and Tuesday. Went swimming with a friend today which was nice and she bought me lunch. But got home and I've reversed into myself and can't talk to my partner about how I feel. Should feel lucky that we're going away for a long weekend in Sweden in June win my partners family but feel apprehensive of his over bearing family. My mil just bought my dd a new car seat, clothes, toys and now wants to buy her a suitcase. I should feel happy she's so involved but feel out of control and over whelmed. Hopefully I'll feel better soon also after I see my mum when she gets back on sat from a week away in Spain with my niece. Well done to all those that have managed to stop BF, they don't explain how hard it is to stop! Love Lucy x
