Combi feeding - how much formula?

We're doing shared parental leave when DD is 11 months. I want DD to be combi fed so probably breastfeed morning and definitely to sleep abd my husband doing all the other formula feeds?

How do you know how much formula to give a baby?

Well there's a general guideline on the tin of whichever formula you're using. But it's also trial and error really and dependant on the individual baby. If baby is draining bottles each time then increase it by an oz until you feel like they're having the right amount for them. You'll know if they're still hungry or if they don't want anymore, so just tweak as you go....

@wigglerose I came here to ask this question, my LO is 8 months old. I was given the following advice: baby needs about 600ml of formula over 24 hours so work out how many feeds he has and then divide 600 by that, then you know how much formula to give and can assume he is taking the same amount ish during breast feeds. Thing is, he basically feeds throughout the night! If I say he has 7 feeds over 24 hours (which is a bit of a guess and should be taken with a pinch of salt) that would mean I should give him 3 oz (90ml) of formula when he has a bottle which I really don't think would satisfy him. Also the assumption is that they take between 90ml and 120ml per feed from the boob but obviously that's a guess too. Basically it's incredibly confusing!!!

Do you mean to feed like that from birth? You may struggle with supply and boob rejection if you're giving so many bottles straight away.
I'd advise establishing breastfeeding first and maybe only giving a bottle every second day to ensure they take it. Continue like that until 3 months maybe then slowly introduce more bottles.
If you mean to combi feed at 11 months then I wouldn't bother as a morning and night feed might be all she needs. Nhs advice is to phase out bottles around 12 months anyway.

With the amount use the side of the pack as a guide. Do paced feeding. If she's left a little in the bottle then she's full. If she's drained it all then offer another ounce.

If you are starting combi feeding from birth I would give one bottle every other day as advised above. When you have established bf at around 12 weeks go to one bottle a day, maybe the 10pm bottle so you can go to sleep earlier. When you want to return to work you can gradually increase the bottle feeds or by that point they may take it in a cup.
At 11 months they may be just about day weaned. DS was day weaned at 12 months and kept feeding at night until nearly 3. Dd is 11 months now and is only feeding once or twice in the day (between 7 am and 8pm) and will take a drink of pretty much anything in a sippy cup. If I needed to I could day wean her. Our situation is more complicated because she has cmpa and can’t have normal formula.
