Hello - just interested in people's guidance/experience. My breast fed DD (5 weeks) has suddenly got real problems with wind - have been using gripe water for last 2 days which has worked well but one side effect is that she is bringing some of her feed back up. She then wants to continue feeding but I'm concerned I don't aggravate the wind - do I feed her again or ride it out for a couple of hours?? Not sure if she's hungry or in discomfort....any tips?? thank you.

Forget the gripe water IME. It isn't uncommon for babies to bring up milk with a feed then want refilled by more milk. You could try feeding one breast at a time if you haven't done that before. By that I mean feed on one breast, wind and then put back on the same breast. Might help with the wind.

When you say problems with wind, do you mean you that it is really hard to wind her? My dd (and later my ds) were impossible to wind and dd threw up frequently. Turned out it was reflux - if your dd also has frequent hiccups, hates lying down, arches back her neck when feeding, has sudden unexplained bouts of irritability, can be "colicky", she may have reflux.

Sorry to bang on about it but no one diagnosed my dd for weeks and it was very disheartening coping with something that I knew wasn't right but all the professionals said was "normal" . So I have now become the Reflux Avenger, determined to make people aware of it.

yes it could be reflux as this is the right age for it to start. infant gaviscon is available over the counter at the chemist, you could give it a try.

i found with my super refluxer that giving him a little drink after a puke was good as it washes all the reflux away which if left in the throat just causes further irritation. when he is making that throaty noise during the day I know its reflux and often just give him a few sips of drink. it works well and settles him down nicely.
